Worship With Us
Join us for worship this Sunday morning at 10am! Our scripture lessons are Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31 that tells us about wisdom and Galatians 5:1, 13-25 that reminds us how to live in the Spirit and produce fruits for one another.

Our sermon is entitled Fruits of the Spirit as we embark on our summer worship series based on these fruits: self-control, joy, patience, kindness, peace, gentleness, generosity, love and faithfulness. As always, we hope you will invite others to come with you!

We will take a moment to honor and give thanks for fathers.

You will find in your bulletin an event for Sunday, June 16 at the World's Fair Pavilion in Forest Park — a Palestine Heritage Festival. It would be good to attend. Please consider this opportunity to promote and enhance cultural exchange.

Recently, a movie was shown here at Parkway UCC. Kris and Tom McKenzie and eight others watched then discussed ‘How Are the Children?’. It is produced by a trusted source, National United Church of Christ.

The film contains cell phone video of Israeli juvenile detention centers with segments of long interrogations, interviews about beatings, cages, and cold. Children are often detained for months, cut off entirely from family. The Palestinians, in their homeland, are under Israeli military occupation. The middle of the night seizures of children from their family homes, followed by a cursory pass through military courts often for the crime of throwing a rock. Another common scene is school children being tear gassed. The extreme and constant military pressure has been called by the UN, slow genocide.

There is a house bill HR2407 entitled The Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act. This would prevent USA military aid from being used against these children.

Evil likes it when good people do nothing.

Please join me at the Palestinian Festival.

Mideast Peace is a complex issue. Making connections with people from all parts of our human family—having conversations, trying their foods, enjoying their music and dance—is not complicated at all.

Our UCC invites us to an All-Church Read!
General Synod is June 21-25 in Milwaukee. Lay leaders and clergy from across the denomination get together to discern the work of the church, delight in one another’s company and BE the church…

Keynote Speaker Matthew Desmond, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City , will transform our understanding of eviction as a root cause of poverty.*

During the summer, PUCC will offer a few opportunities—through Tuesday Evening Dialogue or in other discussion opportunities—to talk about Evicted. Imagine what we might do about this crisis—because stable housing is St Louis’ problem as well. Books are available for purchase in the church office.

What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? ~ Micah 6:8

Humor
A young child was at the zoo with their father. They were looking at the tigers, and the father was telling them how ferocious they were.
“Daddy, if the tigers got out and ate you up…”
“Yes?” the father asked, ready to console them.
“ …Which bus would I take home?”
Video
This makes me think of Pentecost … we are all connected through the Spirit…grab the Kleenex and watch this four minute connecter.
Inspiration
Another practice invites us to bless strangers quietly, secretly. Offer it to people you notice on the street, in the market, on the bus. “May you be happy. May you be at peace.” Feel the blessing move through your body as you offer it. Notice how you both receive some benefit from the blessing. Gently, almost without effort, each and every blessing becomes a Sabbath. ~Wayne Muller

Please consider signing up to read scripture this spring or summer.
