Leo, our Children's Manager / Buyer spent one morning in the Picture Book section, "spending time with his friends." Circe
Circe
by Madeline Miller
Miller brings to life one of the most powerful women of antiquity in a blending of myths that is absolutely spellbinding. Circe is mentioned throughout a number of myths, but Miller collects these small chapters of other people's stories and weaves them into a tale of want, betrayal, love, and power. Lovers of mythology will find this a must read, and those without much knowledge of antiquity will still find in Circe a determined and relatable hero. I really enjoyed the different perspectives that this story brought to well-worn tales, like the Odyssey and the Iliad. I alternated between the audiobook and hardcover, and really enjoyed the audiobook. Perdita Weeks brings Circe to life in her narration; I found that listening to the audiobook helped a lot with knowing how to pronounce many of the Greek names I was unfamiliar with.

Robert F. Kennedy_ Ripples of Hope
I was brought to tears many times during this read and for a number of reasons: devastation at the loss of a person who could have changed the course of American history; frustrated that so little has changed in the treatment of people of color and minorities; awe that a politician could experience something that changed his viewpoint, admit it, and fight for injustice; hope that his legacy and spirit of empathy and compassion live on in his family and a new generation of activists and politicians. I can't say enough about this new favorite. Go read it. Right now.

The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley
This is one of those rare books that make you want to race through to find out what happens, but also slow down to enjoy the brilliant writing. Samuel Hawley lives life on the run with his beloved daughter Loo. His story is told through the twelve bullet scars on his body, alternating with Loo's point of view. It's an amazing novel you won't soon forget.
