Dear Parents and Students,
I hope you are enjoying a safe and restful summer! It is with excitement that I have the opportunity to share with you the wonderful work that’s been taking place on and off campus over the last five weeks. It’s amazing to witness our school’s mission at work through the collaboration, commitment to student learning and engagement, and strategic planning taking place. At the end of the day, it is dedicated individuals that provides the best learning experience for all of our students. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to help strengthen the SJND tradition of
developing confident, open-minded and effective leaders who are ready to live joyful lives of faith, scholarship and service.
The day after graduation, Mr. Rosso, Ms. Sabia and seven juniors and seniors spent a week in D.C. through the
Close Up
program. Through visiting the National Archives, meeting with Representative Barbara Lee on the House steps, and watching the Senate vote in person, students experienced firsthand the running of our government. Other memorable experiences included a visit to the National Holocaust Memorial Museum, a bike ride on the National Mall, and a walk through the Georgetown campus.
That same week, we hosted our first
PilotCon
where nearly 50 students participated in four different workshops with topics ranging from finance to networking. Thanks to those students who attended!
In addition, the Advancement Department hosted the
Golden and Grand Reunions
on Saturday, June 8. It was great to see alums from varying decades return to campus and relive their Pilot pride. Thank you to Mrs. Stein and the 19-20 ASB who hosted a spirit rally for our alums. Thank you also to
sophomore Nicholas Hoo, who gave a moving reflection on his first year as a Pilot at our Golden Reunion, which honored the Class of 1969.
Finally, summer would not be summer without Summer Discovery and Summer Academics on Chestnut Street! It has been great to see current and future Pilots' smiling faces around campus these past few weeks.
In preparation for the start of the 2019-2020 school year, I encourage everyone to review the list of
Upcoming Events
and
Summer Assignments
posted on the
Parent and Student Resources page
on the SJND website.
Enjoy the final weeks of summer vacation and I look forward to seeing you all soon! Go Pilots!
Ms. Guevara
