Principal's Message

Greetings,

As we wrap up our second week of school hopefully the excitement still exists for your child around the beginning of school of a new school year. It can bring about many emotions for each of us. For those of us returning to Loyola there is a comfort level with coming to our campus and seeing familiar faces and spaces. One of the wonderful additions to all of that at the start of this school year are so many new and perhaps unfamiliar faces. I know it is taking me some time to get up to speed on not only the new students but also their families. To all of you, welcome back or welcome to Loyola! Please know we are all here to help and feel free to ask anyone in our community of excellence how together we can make this a peaceful transition for your family.

Other odds & ends:
-I have been dialoging with Mrs. Sarah Honerman about our fall musical, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"! My interest in this is at an all-time high as there is probably no one in our organization who looks more like Charlie Brown than I do!
In our conversations it is apparent we need more males to participate. If your child is teetering on whether or not to audition, please encourage them to do so. This will be an unbelievable experience for your child and we truly hope if they are interested that they will give an audition a chance. Thank you!

-For those of you who don't believe we need more indoor practice spaces up here on the Hill I'd encourage you to stop up on a rainy day after school, especially when it's our week to host football practices. One practice day we had to cram around 30 volleyball players, 80 football players, well over 100 soccer players, and around 30 cross country participants indoors. If you've talked to me, you know I love full spaces in our schools as opposed to empty and let me tell you there wasn't an open space here that day. That was a great feeling, but also shows the need for us to continue to plan for our future in creating more spaces for our students and activity participants at Loyola. We plan on continuing to grow in student numbers and participants and with our co-ops strengthening the need will continue to surface.

-If you haven't had a chance yet, please take a look at our new addition in the main hallway of the school. The hallway is now named Frederick Hall.  It is great to have a name for our main hallway and we are especially pleased to name it in honor of a generous gift given by Joe Frederick, Sr. in honor of his parents, Lorraine and Jerry Frederick.  We have a plaque that will be finished soon that will complete the dedication of the hall. We also had Frederick Hall freshly painted and it looks great! If you walk past the chapel and head towards the Crusader CafĂ© you will also see fresh paint there which has brightened our halls.

-Lastly, your children have helped us get off to a great start this year. So, to them, a word of gratitude for their leadership in making this a school of excellence spiritually, academically, socially, and culturally.

Have a wonderful late summer weekend!

FALL MUSICAL AUDITIONS
Our fall musical this year is "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," a  musical i based on the beloved comic strip "Peanuts" by Charles Schultz. Sally Brown joins Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, and Snoopy in this charming revue of vignettes and songs.

Auditions will be held Sunday, September 16 at 2:00 pm in the band room. Students wishing to audition should prepare 16-32 bars of music from a Broadway show. An accompanist will be present for those who need someone to play piano. If you would prefer to bring a CD or sing accapella, that works too! Those unable to attend auditions should speak to Mrs. Honerman ahead of time. The sign up sheet for auditions is located on Mrs. Honerman's door (room 215).

If you have any questions or concerns, please see Mrs. Honerman.

Be sure to check our  Activities Calendar  for upcoming events and activities! Come out and show your Crusader pride!
