Join us for Business Before Hours - Virtual Networking Event
Tuesday, November 17, 8:30 a.m.
This is a virtual edition of Business Before Hours is a member event structured the same way as our past in-person events. Attendees will have opportunities to share in small groups who they are, what they do and who would make a good customer or referral for them. Come build lasting business and personal relationships at Business Before Hours.
Attendance is limited to 50 pre-registered attendees. Space is Limited and available on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration is required.

Matt Wallaert, Behavioral Scientist and Chief Behavior Officer, Clover Health
Wednesday, November 18th, 8:00 a.m.
For more than 15 years, Matt has spoken to hundreds of audiences about behavior change, including the United Nations, South by Southwest and more. His new book, Start at the End, explains science-based tips for implementing behavior changes in any organization.
Sessions are available for 36 hours starting at 8:00 AM, are approximately 30 minutes long and feature a recorded session from the Leadercast 2020 Event held earlier this year.
Registration closes for this session on Friday at 11:00 PM.

2021 Chamber Diplomat Applications Now Being Accepted
Are you interested in becoming more involved with the Greater Gainesville Chamber? The Chamber Diplomat Committee is now accepting applications for new Diplomats. Chamber Diplomats are a group of representatives from member businesses who volunteer as an active extension of the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce staff.
Their mission is to cultivate, promote and maintain a positive relationship between the Chamber, our members and the community. Chamber Diplomats meet frequently to discuss the missions of the Chamber and several diplomats will attend every event to connect, refer and help ensure every member of the Chamber is getting the assistance they need. Participation in the Chamber Diplomat Committee is open to anyone who has been a Chamber Member for at least one year and is a Member in good standing.
Applications are due by close of business on Wednesday, November 25.

How Might the Omaha business community's DEI transformation inform Greater Gainesville's?
TODAY, November 10, 4:30 - 6 p.m.
The Greater Gainesville Business Coalition for Change is working to help our local business community transform diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in their own companies and the community at-large. We hope you'll join us today at 4:30 p.m. to explore what could be next for the Coalition by taking a deep dive into another region's effort to increase DEI in its business community.
This afternoon from 4:30-6 p.m. ET, Bianca Harley, Senior Director of Diversity and Inclusion at the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce will help us solidify our own next steps by sharing the story of how Greater Omaha -- a region with many similarities to our own -- set out in 2016 to change its business community's culture. We plan to walk away from this discussion with insights on how Greater Omaha activated the heart, drive and intelligence of its business community to transform its commitment to DEI from just being necessary for compliance to being a catalyst for truth, belonging and growth.

After a 2017 survey by the Greater Omaha Chamber resulted in the recommendation of a full-time diversity and inclusion representative as part of its economic development strategy and outcomes, Bianca Harley was appointed to the role of Senior Director of Diversity and Inclusion. With focuses on two aspects of diversity and inclusion: workplace and community, Bianca oversees initiatives aimed to develop and attract diverse professionals, working closely with business leaders, officials and others to assess diversity efforts and engage businesses in its importance.

County CARES Money Still Available for Businesses
If your company is in need of financial assistance, take a look at the County CARES program. Money remains available and you may qualify for assistance. Since the County launched the program, the amount available to individual businesses has increased and nonprofit organizations have become eligible to apply for assistance in the Small- and Medium-sized business category. Library District expands browsing hours to all branches
The Alachua County Library District has expanded browsing hours to all 12 locations.
The Library District now offers launch limited capacity browsing hours as follows:
Headquarters Library and Millhopper, Tower Road, and Alachua branches: Monday, Friday, and Saturday 2-5 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2-7 p.m.
Cone Park, Hawthorne, High Springs, Library Partnership, and Newberry branches: Monday-Saturday 2-5 p.m.
Archer, Micanopy, and Waldo branches: Tuesday-Saturday 2-5 p.m.
Patrons are asked to observe the 2-3 p.m. browsing hour for high-risk community members.
Outside service continues at all locations from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Patrons can walk up to pick up materials, renew library cards, and register for new cards. Curbside service is offered at Headquarters Library only 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Saturday for patrons who prefer to stay in their vehicles.
Computer appointments and copier services are available at 10 a.m., noon, and during browsing hours at all locations. As always, thousands of books and electronic resources are available 24/7 at www.aclib.us.

Hospice Provides Compassionate Care Amid COVID-19 Challenges
The end of a loved one’s life is a difficult time under any circumstances, but the COVID-19 pandemic has made things even more challenging for families as well as those providing hospice care.
Requirements for protective gear and restrictions on visits to medical facilities and nursing homes, put in place to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, have complicated end-of-life care and the ability of family members to spend time with loved ones during their final days. These changes have affected the more than 233,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19 as well as others in need of hospice care.
Pauline Taylor started March 2 as president and chief operating officer of Haven, which provides hospice care to patients and families in Alachua and 17 other North Florida counties. Taylor has more than two decades of experience in the hospice field, but nothing could have prepared her for her first month on the job at Haven. |

University of Florida Campus Master Plan Public Workshop
Thursday, November 12, 6 p.m.
The University of Florida will be reviewing the campus master plan that describes the projected growth for the University of Florida main campus and 13 Alachua County satellite properties for the next 10 years. (See maps below) This plan focuses on the areas of land use, transportation, housing, capital improvements, conservation, recreation, infrastructure, utilities, urban design and academic facilities.
A public workshop on the campus master plan will be held on November 12, 2020 at 6:00 PM via digital media technology.
The workshop is an informal information session with opportunity for questions and answers. Interested parties who cannot attend this workshop are invited to submit written comments to Linda Dixon, Director of Planning, at [email protected] or P.O. Box 115050, Gainesville Florida 32611.

The pandemic is destroying businesses at an unprecedented pace, but it is also driving displaced workers to consider the benefits of creating their own business. SCORE is currently receiving almost 4 requests per day for mentoring, and we need experienced business owners to help with the load.
Every year, SCORE volunteers help thousands of entrepreneurs start small businesses and achieve new levels of success in their existing businesses. Volunteering at SCORE is a way for you to give back to your community, connect with fellow business owners, and pass on your knowledge and expertise to the next generation of entrepreneurs in your community.
Interested individuals should fill out the form at the link below and we will call you to discuss our mentoring program. Even if you can only help with one client per week, your assistance will help to foster the vibrant local small business community that support Gainesville and the surrounding counties.
