"Can you see me now?: Zooming into your next role"
The 50-minute workshop will teach participants the do's and don'ts of interviewing over Zoom.
"Our world pivoted to a mostly virtual workspace quickly," Marisa explains. "While the pandemic will be temporary, we will not be returning to the professional world of the past. Employers will be moving towards a space that includes a hybrid approach of in-person and virtual work. We need to better understand how to interact and work with others through a variety of mediums. Learning key interview skills is a good first step in accomplishing that goal."
Marisa says during the workshop they will discuss some key strategies that will help participants feel prepared for interviewing. "The main difference between Zoom and in-person interviewing is the ability to connect with your interviewers," she says. "Non-verbal communication and one's ability to encounter the other is different in a virtual setting. You're not able to chit chat in the reception area or when walking towards the elevator together. Zoom interviewing creates a formal and timed space and in that time and space you need to convey important messages like why you are the best person for the job!"
Marisa says she is not the type that enjoys public speaking, but she realizes how important it is. She concludes, "At SCA, I learned that being authentic is critically important to achieve success. Authenticity allows people to connect on many levels and it also helps you be actively self-aware. I also learned not to shy away from things that seem intimidating or scary. While I don't like public speaking, I know it is important for me to practice it for my own personal growth (personally and professionally)."

Students participate in Concordia College's annual
StArt Regional High School Art Exhibition
Three students from SCA's AP Art and Design 2D class participated in Concordia College's annual StArt Regional High School Art Exhibition, which was held virtually this year. The three seniors, Kianna L., Mikayla M. and Kymeco W. represented St. Catharine's at the virtual show, which highlighted student art from 21 schools.

Young alums give seniors an inside look at college
Marie Mernacaj '20, Fordham University, is speaking on the virtual visit
with the rest of the alumnae panel looking on.
The Class of 2021 had the opportunity to learn about young alum's college experiences at this year's virtual Q&A with young alumnae. The panel included:
- Gabriella Oller: Iona College
- Nicole Lopez: Pace University
- Grace Rios: University of New Haven
- Cheyenne Gonzalez: CUNY John Jay
- Duyen Tran: SUNY Stony Brook
- Marie Mernacaj: Fordham University.
They gave the current seniors an inside look at college and answered questions, about social life, academic challenges and more.

Jehona Q. '23 selected to participate in
NYU's Pre-College Program
Jehona Q. '23 has been selected to participate in NYU's Pre-College Program. The program, which runs January through May, provides sophomores through seniors an opportunity to take college level courses in a variety of subjects and earn college credit.
"Both of my parents escaped a war-torn country to come to America for a better and brighter future," Jehona says. "When I saw the opportunity to apply to the presitigous program at New York University (NYU), I didn't hesitate to take the chance, thinking about the risks my parents took so I can have opportunities like this."
A sophomore, Jehona is a student representative in SCA's Student Government, and hopes to explore other clubs when she returns to in class learning after the pandemic.
She credits her classmates with being a major influence on her, especially during the pandemic. "From pushing me to do my best, to keeping me optimistic throughout the school year, I can always rely on them to be there for me."
Jehona concludes, "Even though I am only a sophomore at St. Catharine Academy, this school has taught me so much, whether it be academically or personally." She points to AP World History as an example saying Mrs. Attia has prepared her for college and the world outside of SCA. "Her class has taught me to always critically think and to always question the world."
