Celebrate Black History Month: Honoring African American Educators and Advocates
In celebration of Black History Month, we are honoring Dr. Frederick Douglass Patterson, who founded the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) in 1944. Today, UNCF is the nation's largest minority education organization, awarding more than $100 million a year in scholarships to more than 10,000 students. Patterson also served as President of what is now Tuskegee University, and was an early champion of making higher education accessible to African American students.

Parras MS Counseling

Hello 8th Grade Parents!

Your Parras counseling team is excited to roll out a valuable lesson about preparing for HS college, work, and beyond.  This lesson will go over a-g requirements, RUHS pathways and courses, and how to stay eligible for sports and extracurricular activities and is designed to help prepare your student for selecting their courses for next year.  Our lesson will be taught in Social Science classes during the week of 2/22-2/26 and students will have the opportunity to fill out a question sheet at the end of the lesson.  We will then be hosting a student Q&A session on Monday, March 1st, 2021 @ 1:30p via zoom.  Please make sure this is on your student's calendar if they have any questions or need support.  Also, to continue to get important updates on HS nights, videos on signing up for classes, etc, please make sure your child is part of the 8th Grade Counseling google classroom here:  3f32qud.

Sincerely,
Rachel Andrews

Other Counseling News:

The Parras Counseling department plans to offer small group counseling services this Spring. Groups will meet once a week for 4-6 weeks and may take place in-person or online, depending on the guidelines set forth by LACDPH at the time. Groups will consist of 5-7 students and topics may include: social skills, maintaining positive friendships, self-esteem, study skills, etc. We are currently asking for parents to fill out this interest survey to indicate if their student would be interested in participating in a group.

Please note that this is not a signup form but will serve as the list we work from during our planning process. If space in a group becomes available, we will reach out to you directly with details about the group, as well as a parent permission slip.

Also, reminder that students can sign up for individual counseling HERE and they should ABSOLUTELY add the counselor google classroom for inspiration, motivation, and connection opportunities.

Engagement Recognition

Team Parras would like to spotlight students who have been 100% engaged in all of their online lessons for the month of January.  We understand how different and sometimes difficult it can be with distance learning.  So a big shout out & thank you to students who have shown up every day and fully engaged!  Please see the attached certificate recognizing all of these students, and remember, each month is a fresh start, so you always have the opportunity to get recognized the following month.
