Greetings!

I’m sure that many of you will be glad to know that the Pines was much quieter this past weekend. I’m also glad to share some important information about the upcoming election and much more in this week’s newsletter.

Good News – A Quieter Weekend
Residents have identified noise as a primary concern, and thus I address it as the first topic. I am pleased to report that last weekend was quiet. There were only six Disturbance of the Peace complaints. The residents of those houses were responsive when they were informed that there was a complaint.

Residents have asked if they should contact their neighbor directly or call 911 immediately if there is a noise disturbance. There is no single answer. It really depends on your relationship with your neighbor; the time of day also makes a difference. If you are friendly with your neighbor, then it is best to contact your neighbor directly. Similarly, if the noise occurs during the day as opposed to the night, go to your neighbor first. On the other hand, if your relationship with your neighbor is strained or if you have reason to believe your direct request will not be well received, it is probably better to call 911.

FIPPOA Annual Election and Ballots
The FIPPOA Fall Meeting and Election will take place on Saturday, September 26th at Whyte Hall, Lepage Pavilion. We will be following all NYS guidelines for a safe outdoor event.

The Fall Meeting is an election meeting. In preparation for the election, FIPPOA will send a ballot and packet with candidate bios to all FIPPOA members via US mail at their primary address on file during the week of August 24th. Members can also request a ballot by emailing 311@fippoa.org. Each email ballot will have its own identification to ensure one vote per regular member and two votes for members who own multiple properties.

Important information about ballots: Ballots can be mailed via US mail or filled out in person at the FIPPOA Fall Meeting. Ballots cannot be emailed or dropped off at the FIPPOA Office.

There is still time to join FIPPOA! If you have not renewed your membership or want to join as a new member, please go here https://www.fippoa.org/join.

COBE Town Hall
The Committee on Black Equality will present a discussion of the Committee’s work this Saturday, August 22nd at Whyte Hall, Lepage Pavilion. This is an important discussion of FIPPOA’s efforts to achieve black equality and inclusion in the Pines. I encourage all to attend.

Mosquito Fogging
We are happy to report that Suffolk County has reinstated mosquito fogging for Fire Island. Fogging will be starting up again this week.

Freight Dock
Due to the large volume of shipments coming into the Freight Dock, FIPPOA requests that all residents please pick up packages and/or shipments within 48 hours of delivery to the Freight Dock. If you are unable to pick up your shipment from the freight dock within 48 hours, you can make arrangements with Coastline Freight to have it delivered directly to your home. It is essential that we keep the area clear for new freight that arrives daily and allow room for Tony’s Barge to operate safely on garbage pickup days. FIPPOA is not responsible for shipments from Coastline. If you have any issues with your shipment, please contact Coastline directly at (631) 563-1997.

PSEG Reimbursements from Power Outage
PSEG has announced that it will reimburse residents for spoiled food and medicine resulting from power outages related to the Tropical Storm Isaias. You can go here psegliny.com/claims to request a reimbursement of $150 if you do not have receipts and $300 if you have receipts. PSEG reports that the majority of the downed wires on Fire Island were caused by overgrown trees, not by our existing infrastructure.

I wish everyone a wonderful, safe, quiet, and relaxing weekend, and hope to see many of you at Whyte Hall this Saturday!
Best,
Jay
