Online Service:
The Work of Love (
10:30 am)
Celebrating fathers, and fathering, this Sunday we explore the process of how deep and powerful love is forged. What do we learn about love in the heat of summer solstice? As we explore the theme of compassion this month, in a moment when strong feelings roil throughout our society, we turn to the feminist theologian Beverly Harrison to ask, "what is the relationship between anger and compassion?"

Sunday Circle and New Saturday Circle
|
Sunday Circle - 9:00 am
Since Social Distancing means we can't gather in our Fireside Room, we have evolved a Zooming Circle. See connection information below.
This Sunday's Circle topic -- facilitated by Karen Glikman -- Kate Raworth and "Exploring Doughnut Economics." Here is a brief description from her website, which is
https://www.kateraworth.com
Humanity's 21st century challenge is to meet the needs of all within the means of the planet. In other words, to ensure that no one falls short on life's essentials (from food and housing to healthcare and political voice), while ensuring that collectively we do not overshoot our pressure on Earth's life-supporting systems, on which we fundamentally depend - such as a stable climate, fertile soils, and a protective ozone layer. The Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries is a playfully serious approach to framing that challenge, and it acts as a compass for human progress this century.

Special Announcement from Phoebe Eckart, Youth Coordinator
|
Despite COVID-19's best efforts to stand in the way of plans, we are preparing to hold bridging for our two high school seniors this year, Wil Bauer and Rachel Berg!
Have you been a friend, mentor, cheerleader, or peer to our recent high school graduates? If so, would you be willing to do one or both of the following?
(1) Come to the church courtyard one night this week to add a bit of paint to the door?
We hope to have one family at a time, without overlap in order to do this safely. *We will have new/clean brushes + chocolate!
Here
is a doodle poll to sign up for painting slots tonight or tomorrow. Or contact Phoebe at
Phoebe.eckart@gmail.com
for a night this coming week.
(2) Could you please record a <1 minute video of you wishing our bridgers well and send it to
Phoebe.eckart@gmail.com
or
Revlynne@uumarin.org
?
As we can't have folks physically on the other side of the door, I am hoping to put together a collection of your messages to celebrate their time as youth or welcome them into young adulthood. I'll also be set up to record you saying a few words at church if you are able to come to paint the door.
I know that this has been an extremely strange and difficult time, where celebration can feel challenging, and so I would be extremely grateful for your help in celebrating and supporting our bridging youth.
In faith,
Phoebe

Dear Ones,
Summer is upon us! I will be stepping back from leading weekly worship, and give more time to rest and study in the coming weeks. Last week marked the last mid-week service I will lead for now. After this Sunday, I will next lead the service on July 19. I will be "in the office" off and on between now and then, and then be fully away except for emergencies from July 20 until August 17. I'll resume leading services regularly August 23.
My gratitude to all the leaders and staff keeping our train on the tracks as I step back, and all the wonderful guest speakers our Worship Associates have lined up. Gratitude especially to our affiliated minister Rev. Theresa Novak for stepping up to preach twice this summer -- having a familiar face leading Zoom services makes such a difference.
With you on the journey,
Rev. Marcus Hartlief
