Why is Village Hall's Phone Ringing?
When is the last day to pay property taxes through the Village?
  • The last day to pay any outstanding balances on 2018 tax bills is July 31. After July 31, all outstanding 2018 tax balances are transferred to Milwaukee County and payment will no longer be accepted through the Village. Outstanding balances and payment details can be obtained through the Village website through July 31.

Lake Drive One Day Detour - Tuesday, July 23:
The Village of Whitefish Bay is under contract with Stark Pavement Corporation for the complete width pavement resurfacing of the entire Village of Whitefish Bay limits of Lake Drive. This work began on Monday, July 8 and entails pavement milling and removal, utility structure adjustment, asphalt repaving and pavement striping. The project will be completed in 3 separate phases, with each pavement section phase approximately 1 mile long.

To accommodate this needed milling and resurfacing work, the following intersections will be completely closed for the day on Tuesday, July 23 (weather permitting):
  • Lake Drive / Marlborough Drive / Silver Spring Drive
  • Lake Drive / Henry Clay Street / Ardmore Avenue

The following roads will be marked as a detour route on Tuesday, July 23 (weather permitting):
School Road, Santa Monica Boulevard and Hampton Road (Local traffic will still be allowed on the remainder of Lake Drive).

This project will proceed rapidly and is scheduled to be completed by early August, again weather dependent. The Public Works Department staff understands the inconvenience that this project will create and greatly appreciates your patience and understanding.  Please be careful, slow down and pay extra attention when driving around this and all construction zones.  If you should have any questions regarding this project, feel free to contact Staff Engineer Spencer Charczuk
Police Department Update:
IMPORTANT Notice from the Whitefish Bay Police Department! Since July 6, 2019 two vehicles were stolen from residences in Whitefish Bay. Both vehicles were left unlocked with the keys inside.

Numerous other unlocked vehicles were entered. Please remember to lock your homes and vehicles at night. Do not leave keys in vehicles when not in use and remove any valuables.
What Does Revaluation Mean For My Taxes:
As is common following a property assessment revaluation project, the Village of Whitefish Bay has been receiving inquiries about the impact that revised assessments will have on property taxes. There is a misconception that an increased assessment will automatically lead to a tax increase.

Overall, the Village of Whitefish Bay experienced a 16% increase in assessed value. However, revaluations are revenue neutral. In other words, an increase in total property value does not necessarily mean that the Village of Whitefish Bay and/or other taxing jurisdictions will collect more tax dollars. Property assessments are used to determine each owner’s share of the total tax burden. Therefore, some owner’s shares will increase, some will decrease and some will stay about the same depending on how their assessment changed in relation to the average increase of 16%. Property owners may schedule an Open Book appointment to discuss their property assessment with a member of the Assessor’s staff by calling (262) 395-4447.

The 2019 tax rate will be available in December after each of the different taxing authorities (Milwaukee County, Village of Whitefish Bay, Whitefish Bay School District, MATC, and MMSD) have established their respective tax levies. Additional information about the Revaluation Project is available by clicking here.
Consaul Commons Open House - August 15:
Be a part of Community Placemaking! The Village of Whitefish Bay is currently underway on an important planning project for Consaul Commons. The plaza is located by the historic clock tower between The Bay Restaurant and Gerhard’s Kitchen and Bath Store (see highlighted blue area on map below). There will be an open house to present the concepts to the public on August 15th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Village Hall (5300 N. Marlborough Drive).

The Village will be seeking public input on the potential design and use of the outdoor space. You can provide input and keep up-to-date with the planning process by visiting:
www.wfbvillage.org/consaulcommons. We welcome your input and involvement on creating a very special place in the heart of the village!

Village of Whitefish Bay 2019 Sidewalk Improvement Project Underway:

The Village of Whitefish Bay Public Works Department is under contract with Forward Contractors of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to complete Village public sidewalk improvements. The primary location of the improvements this year is located within the northwest corner of the Village; however, work will also take place at identified locations throughout the Village.  This sidewalk improvement work is needed to improve the safety of those utilizing the public sidewalk system in the Village. The work is scheduled to be complete by late August 2019, weather dependent.
Annual Fire Hydrant Flushing Project:

The annual fire hydrant flushing project is underway. Areas to be flushed:
  • All streets north of Silver Spring Drive.
  • All streets south of Silver Spring Drive to Hampton Ave between Lydell Ave and Santa Monica Blvd.

Completion of the flushing project will occur by the end of August or in early September.  Portable signs will be posted in the general area where the flushing is occurring. Residents may notice cloudy water at times and may experience low water pressure. If cloudy water occurs, please run your water for a period of time until the water clears; this is only a temporary condition.

Garden Initiatives in the Bay (Part 4 of 5)

Richards Elementary PTO: The native plant pollinator garden at Richards is growing happily and seems to be enjoying all the rain we’ve been getting. The goal this summer is to create matching plant identification signage for the new additions to the garden last summer for the bed on the left of the main entrance. For the bed on the right we’re hoping to create a few pieces of garden art to provide some color and year-round interest. Submitted by Susan Stadtmueller
North Shore Health Department:
News from the Health Department:

Nutrition and Physical Activity is one of the focus areas for both the North Shore’s 2014-19 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) and the 2020-2025 CHIP (currently under development).

The USDA recommends filling half of your plate with fruits and vegetables at every meal. Fruits and vegetables provide the human body with micronutrients that are essential for development and disease prevention. According to the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee and Institute of Medicine, a poor diet can lead to energy imbalance and can increase one’s risk for becoming overweight or obese. Dietary and physical activity recommendations for healthful living are inextricably intertwined. Adequate physical activity provides protection against chronic diseases and helps to balance energy expenditure and intake.

To help keep your body at its healthiest, stop by any of the North Shore’s local Farmers’ Markets to purchase fresh produce:
  • Whitefish Bay (July 8th - October 19th): Saturdays, 8:00am - 12:00pm at the Aurora Parking Lot– 324 E. Silver Spring Dr.
  • Brown Deer (June 12th - October 30th): Wednesdays, 9:00am - 5:30pm at the Marketplace Shopping Center – 9078 N. Green Bay Rd.
  • Fox Point (June 15th – October 12th): Saturdays, 8:00am - 12:00pm at North Shore Congregational Church – 7330 N. Santa Monica Rd.
  • Shorewood (June 16th – October 27th): Sundays, 9:30am – 1:00pm at the Lake Bluff Elementary playground – 1600 E. Lake Bluff Blvd.

Tips below on easy ways to increase physical activity:
  • Join a walking group in the neighborhood or at the local shopping mall.
  • Do stretches, exercises, or pedal; a stationary bike while watching television.
  • Plant and care for a vegetable or flower garden.
  • Replace a coffee break with a brisk 10-minute walk. Ask a friend or co-worker to go with you.
  • Take a class and do something you like (martial arts, dance, yoga).
  • Most importantly, have fun while being active!
