Moving Beyond Chapter 222: A Vision for Progressive School Discipline in Massachusetts

Join us on Thursday, Oct. 19th, 10:00am - 2:00pm , at UMass Boston, Ryan Lounge, McCormack Hall, 3 Fl (lunch provided).

Due to your tireless advocacy, Massachusetts passed the landmark Chap 222 law, a momentous step in the fight against zero tolerance exclusionary discipline and the school-to-prison pipeline. While substantial progress has been made in reducing out-of-school suspensions for student groups across the board, significant gaps exist to implementing fully funded alternatives to exclusion and closing the racial discipline gap in our schools.

This convening will give us a valuable opportunity to advance relationships among advocates, collectively identify challenges and opportunities, and develop an action plan going forward for this work.  Highlights will include:
  • A presentation from Mass Budget on its exciting new research on the details and costs of exclusionary discipline
  • The latest statistics regarding suspension and expulsion in Massachusetts' schools
  • An opportunity to hear from grassroots experts and practitioners in the field about best practices, what's working and what's not on the ground
  • A discussion of where we may want to move collectively with a wide range of stakeholders to transform school discipline in our state
Space is limited, so please RSVP here today!
