9:15 a.m. Drop-in Discussion - DREAMers Among Us. Beth Ares will discuss the New York Dream Act, which gives young unauthorized immigrants who were brought to this country as children an opportunity to pursue their educations. She will show the 21-minute documentary DREAMers Among Us made by the Hudson Dreamers Committee of the Youth Arts Group of Rural and Migrant Ministry.

Memorial Walk for Lauretta Young
|
We miss Lauretta so much! In memory of her birthday on Friday, June 17th, friends of Lauretta Young will be gathering at Ontario Beach Park for a walk and casual picnic. We will meet at the Sailboats sculpture around 6:15 p.m. and start out at 6:30 p.m. for a walk to the Lighthouse (about a half hour walk), and back, returning to the park for a casual picnic dinner. All are asked to bring your own brown bag supper, or pick it up at one of restaurants or concessions in the park. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets as tables may be in short supply. Questions, contact Shirley Bond ([email protected]) or Marcia Weaver ([email protected]). In the event of light rain, we are still on. In the event of a storm, a rain date will be arranged later.

This Sunday, June 19th will be the annual picnic starting around 1 pm at the Riverbend Shelter in Genesee Valley Park. Bring a dish to pass, your drinks, and something to grill. Maps and details will be coming. Contact Karl Abbott at [email protected] if you are able to volunteer with the clean up.

General Assembly - June 22-26
|
Interested in what goes on at General Assembly, but can't go this year? We will live stream several of the key events on the big screen at church including the Ware Lecture (Krista Tippett), the Service of the Living Tradition, some workshops and Plenary sessions. CLARA'S CUPBOARD:
Please note that the Grand Opening of Clara's Cupboard (previously scheduled for June 20th) has been rescheduled for a future date to be announced. Stay tuned!
OVERDUE BOOKS: The church bookstore and library will be open in the Clara Barton lounge during Sunday coffee hour through June 19th. If you have borrowed books from the church library and not yet returned them, please return them before the end of the regular church year. Also, the Library Committee will reduce its inventory of used books for sale after June 19th, so you might want to check the church bookstore’s used book shelf.
JOIN US FOR RAIHN* WEEK: During the week of July 10-17th, we will provide temporarily homeless families a safe place to stay at First Universalist Church. If you'd like to help, sign up in the lounge after church on Sunday, or contact Chris DeGolyer, [email protected], Marti Eggers, [email protected], or Sarah Singal, [email protected]. If you would like to learn more before volunteering, we have opportunities to "shadow" experienced volunteers. *Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network: helping homeless families achieve sustainable independence

NEIGHBORHOOD PILGRIMAGE UPCOMING: A pilgrimage need not take place in a faraway holy city. On Saturday, August 20th, from 9 to noon, there will be a chance to embark on a unique walk around our own church neighborhood. Our journey will take us to nearby places “on the margins”-- spaces of human and environmental vulnerability around us. It will include prayer/ meditation, journaling, and space to process together in response to what we see. We will be led by Deacon David Palma, of St. Mary’s Church. The walk covers a distance of about 2 miles. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail Rev. Celie (

) by June 19th. We will take the first 10 RSVPs we receive.
