Backpacks for School 7

Help a child begin the school year with a backpack and school supplies!  This year we will again provide backpacks for children at School 7 who need them, and we will also provide basic school supplies - paper, pencils, spiral notebooks, three ring binders, and glue sticks.  Buy a backpack or several, and/or school supplies, bring the backpacks and receipts on Sundays in September, and Sarah Singal will help you turn in the paperwork to get reimbursed. You're welcome to join us as we take the gifts to the school.  We have a healthy backpack fund, thanks to the generosity of this congregation!
Social Justice Plate Offering

On September 20, the first social justice plate this year will go to RAIHN, Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network.  Area congregations provide food and safe housing while families are temporarily homeless.  During the day the families are at the Day Center and the children can go to their usual school.  This organization is overwhelmingly volunteer-based and has a limited budget; please give generously!
Unirondack Weekend
October 2-4, 2015

Please join fellow Rochester UUs for a weekend at Unirondack, the camp in Lowville, NY, owned by our St. Lawrence District. The weekend has been organized for many years by members of the First Unitarian Church, and members of First Universalist are also welcome to participate.

The weekend includes 5 collaboratively prepared meals starting Saturday morning, and bunk beds in cabins with electricity and running water (but not heat). Hiking, kayaking/canoeing, crafts, games, quiet time, campfire/sing-along, and other activities shared usually by 50-70 people.

$80 per adult covers lodging and meals; reduced prices for children.  For more information, a table will be set up in the Clara Barton Lounge after the service on 9/20.  Payment by check to Dave Vanable.  Registration form at the table or from MJ Curry at [email protected].
