ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 21, 2014:
NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, September 28: A Parable for Today Sister Barbara Moore, RSM, Associate Faculty, Professor of Preaching and Practical Theology, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, and Director of the Program for Study of Women and Gender in Church and Society. Sister Moore is also the 2014 recipient of the Greater Rochester Council of Churches Faith in Action Network Metropolitan Award.
NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, September 28: Police Militarization. Harvey Rothbeind will lead a discussion.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages. Nursery care for babies and younger children is on the second floor provided throughout the service. We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.
ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST? Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation? Then stop by the Welcome Table in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour. You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!
A SPECIAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING will be held TODAY after the service to vote on a proposal to borrow funds from our endowment to support short term cash flow needs for the Exterior Renovation project. Members are asked to stay in the sanctuary for this meeting.
RECYCLING: The church hauler does not take our recycling, and it has to be either carted out or thrown away. Please help with this endeavor by taking the office and kitchen blue bins home, so we can avoid having to pay extra disposal fees (and can also minimize the incidence of kitchen critters...). There's a signup sheet in the lounge, on the small stand-up bulletin board near the cabinets. See Karen Dau with questions. Thanks so much!
BOOK GROUP: Sunday September 28th, 12:15, in the Adult Lounge. This month's selection is "Year of Wonder" by Geraldine Brooks, a book which gives us a glimpse into the strangeness of history that simultaneously enables us to see a reflection of ourselves. No in-depth analysis--opinions welcome. For further information please see or e-mail Shirley or Sarah.
FALL CLEAN-UP DAY: The 2014 Fall Clean-up Day has been scheduled for Saturday October 4th, starting around 9:00 AM. If you have ever wanted to volunteer for the church or to just get to know the building as well as other members a little better, this is a perfect opportunity! There will be all kinds of cleaning, fixing, painting, etc. jobs to be completed - something for all skill levels. Bring along your favorite tools or cleaning products. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided. Socializing and fun will also be part of the agenda. For more information, please contact Tom Ruganis at 746-7796 (cell) or 442-2968 (home).
