July Third Thursday:

What Makes Writing Poetic?

Thursday, July 18, 2019
7 p.m.
BookPeople (3rd floor)
603 North Lamar Blvd.
Austin, TX 78703
FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

It's common for readers - and writers, too - to describe novels as poetic. Usually this means that the language is lyrical, but the lyric is only one type of poetry and only one style available to poets (and prose writers as well). In this panel, four poets will discuss what "poetic" actually means and all of the style possible within modern poetry. We'll also talk about what prose writers can learn from poetry.

Find the event on Facebook and on our website.

For many of us, plot is the most mysterious aspect of writing fiction. It's also the backbone of a good story. This class will examine varieties of narrative structures, ways to keep your scenes moving, mistakes to avoid, and tips for getting your story unstuck. Whatever your genre or skill level, you will learn fresh approaches for telling the story you're trying to tell.

TAKE THIS CLASS IF

Your plot has stalled (overall or in a particular scene), and you want to know how to get it moving again.
