New U.S. Poet Laureate Confirmed for Annual OC Lecture

The newly-appointed Poet Laureate of the United States, Joy Harjo, has been confirmed as the speaker for the 11th Annual Creative Edge Lecture presented by Arts Orange County in collaboration with the Orange County Department of Education. Admission to the lecture is free, thanks to generous underwriters of the event, and will take place on Friday, February 28, 10 am at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Joy Harjo was appointed the 23rd United States Poet Laureate, the first Native American to hold the position. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Harjo is an internationally known award-winning poet, writer, performer, and saxophone player of the Mvskoke/Creek Nation. She is the author of nine books of poetry and a memoir. Her many writing awards include the 2019 Jackson Prize from the Poetry Society of America, the Ruth Lilly Prize from the Poetry Foundation, the 2015 Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets, and the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. Planned Laguna Beach Developments May Benefit Two Major Arts Institutions
|
According to stories in the
Daily Pilot and
Laguna Beach Independent, Laguna College of Art + Design is exploring the possibility of moving its campus from its current location, which includes its main buildings and various other properties scattered in Laguna Canyon, to the property that currently houses the Hive near the Village Entrance. Additionally, Laguna Art Museum is reported to be considering a collaboration in the planned Museum Hotel project. These and four additional real estate development projects proposed by the Laguna Beach Co. received preliminary approval by the City Council. More at links above.
