NiLP Press Release on the Death of Hector Figueroa
July 12, 2019

It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the sudden death of our dear amigo, labor leader, and NiLP Board Member Hector Figueroa. He passed away in his own home last night, July 11, 2019. We don't know the exact cause of death. Details about burial arrangements and memorial events will be forthcoming.

Please keep Hector in your thoughts, hearts, and prayers. Remember how much he loved his family, the workers he served, and the community he advocated for through NiLP as well as the  32BJ Service Employees International Union. Hector brought the intellectual firepower of his economics expertise to his labor advocacy. And he brought a pragmatic and fierce resolve to lifting the poverty wages of often forgotten workers who handle baggage at airports and clean basements in apartment buildings. Hector's work helped to improve the lives of thousands of workers at the lowest rung of this society. By doing so, Hector improved the lives of all the people these workers serve in New York and other cities in this country.

On Behalf of the NiLP Board,

Jose Ramon Sanchez
Chair, Board of Directors
