Union Grove's new Build Your Own Business (BYOB) program encourages new businesses to locate downtown by opening short-term, temporary locations, which could lead to permanent occupancy in the Village. Entrepreneurs opening a storefront location for 3-5 months can test their business concept, gain new customers, and prove the growth opportunities for building their business.

Business owners receive assistance in finding a store front location, developing a marketing plan from the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at the University of Wisconsin - Parkside, and access to a $500 grant upon signing a lease. Businesses choosing to remain in downtown Union Grove after the initial lease period could receive additional grant and financing resources to establish permanency. BYOB is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs, business owners working at home, or experienced business owners who want to reach new customers.

Polls will be open for the Spring Election on Tuesday, April 6, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Union Grove Municipal Center (925 15th Ave.). The ballot will include races for Village Board, School Board, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Court of Appeals Judge and Circuit Court Judge.

If you need to register as a first-time voter or re-register due to a name or address change, you can register by mail or online up to 20 days before the election (March 17). You can also register at the Village Offices up to the Friday before the election (April 2). Registration is available at the polls on election day. Voters must reside at their address for at least 28 days by Election Day in order to register to vote. A valid proof of residence is required to register, such as a Wisconsin driver’s license or ID, utility bill, bank statement, residential lease or tax bill.

If you wish to receive an absentee ballot by mail, you can submit a request online or fill out an application form and submit it by email to info@uniongrove.net, by mail to the Village Offices, in person or in the 24/7 dropbox outside the entrance of the municipal center. A valid photo ID must be included with your application if you have not provided a photo ID to vote by mail in the past. Absentee ballots will be mailed out starting March 16th.  In-person absentee voting will be offered at the municipal center on the following dates and times: Tuesday, March 23 to Friday, April 2 during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and available until 5 PM on Friday, April 2. Note that in-person voting for this election will be available in the municipal center; drive-up absentee voting will not be available for this election.

On January 4, the Village Board approved a re-zoning application submitted by Bear Development for the proposed Canopy Hill subdivision. The approval was contingent upon the approval of a development agreement and final plat of phases 1 and 2a by July 1, 2021. These items will be on the Village Board agenda for consideration this evening (March 1, 2021). The Board will also consider creation of tax increment financing district (TID) no. 7, which would reimburse the developer for the cost of public infrastructure within a portion of the development. Village ordinance requires proof of rabies vaccinations for all cats and dogs. If you have licensed your pet in the past, and the rabies vaccination is still good, you do not need to submit proof - we have it on file. However, if this is a new license, or if your animal was vaccinated in the last year, please provide the certificate from the veterinarian. If you are requesting licenses by mail or dropbox, please submit your payment and rabies certificate with a license application form.

The Village is regulated by the DNR on the amount of chloride that can be discharged by the wastewater treatment plant into the West Branch of the Root River Canal. Property owners are requested to do their part to help reduce excessive chloride discharge. Consider only softening water that needs to be softened; cold water taps and outside faucets should bypass the softener. Additionally, verify how your existing softener is calibrated, use the minimum salt dosage required for regeneration and ensure that it is properly maintained and tuned by contacting our local supplier of softeners for tips, advice or servicing as needed. If you are installing a new softener look for a flow controlled/high efficiency unit. For large water consumers consider an upgrade to your system by adding brine reclaim which can reduce your salt expense and water usage.

The Village of Union Grove and the Village of Yorkville are requesting proposals from qualified individuals/firms/corporations to provide joint contracted building inspection services to both Villages. Both Villages are issuing this RFP for joint building inspection services, including, but not limited to, plan review, permit issuance, residential and commercial inspections, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical inspections in accordance with State and each Village’s building codes, maintenance of inspection records and reports, code enforcement, and meeting attendance when requested.
