ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR OCTOBER 6, 2013:
NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, October 13: So What Are You Coming Here For? This week if it's for a catchy title or engaging topic, perhaps you will stay home. I hope not. NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, October 13: Behind the Kitchen Door. Most of us eat in restaurants, but we don't know what goes on behind the kitchen door-what workers are paid, what their conditions are, how immigrants and people of color are treated, how many come to work sick. Shirley Bond will lead a discussion based on Saru Jayaraman's book, Behind the Kitchen Door.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages. Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor. We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.
ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST? Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation? Then stop by the Welcome Table in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour. You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!
FOOD INGATHERING is next Sunday. Donations of non-perishable food will be collected to benefit The Community Food Cupboard on Nester Street. There is currently a particular need for canned vegetables, soup, and mac & cheese.
BROCKPORT ECUMENICAL OUTREACH COMMITTEE (BEOC), a faith-based organization serving migrant and seasonal farm workers, will have an information table in coffee hour this Sunday. The Brockport UU is an active member of this organization. You will have an opportunity to donate to BEOC during the plate offering in November.
FALL ORIENTATION SERIES: We'll begin on October 6 by watching and discussing Voices of a Liberal Faith, a DVD about what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist. On October 20, Reverend Munson will lead the group in discussing where each of us has come from theologically, and where we see ourselves today. On November 3, we'll talk about our strengths and talents, involvement in the church community, and how we, as your church community, can help and support you on your faith journey. They will start at 12:15 and last for about an hour. Childcare will be provided. So please join us for one or all of these sessions. All are welcome! Contact Nancy at [email protected].
BREAD SUNDAY: October 20th. Members are encouraged to bring their favorite home-made bread to share during coffee hour. MOCHA will provide the butter, jellies, jams, cream cheese to enrich the offerings. If you will provide bread for this service, please let Bill or Becky Elwell know of your offering.
FALL CLEAN-UP DAY has been scheduled for Saturday October 19, starting at 9:00 AM. There will be all kinds of cleaning, fixing, painting, etc. jobs to be completed. Bring along your favorite tools or products. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided. Much socializing fun will also be part of the agenda. THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE is seeking 4 candidates who would like to attend the Annual Meeting of the New York State Convention of Universalists (NYSCU) to be held October 25-26, 2013 at St Paul's Universalist Church in Little Fall, NY. RECYCLING: It is gratifying to see signups for the new recycling initiative. There are 3 easy steps: 1) take home the green bins in the office and kitchen; 2) leave them on the curb on your pickup day, or take them to your recycling center; and 3) return the empty bins. RAIHN HOST WEEK:The skies are blue, and leaves are turning many colors. It's a beautiful time of year, but nights are growing cooler, and some families don't have a place to live. Let's help them out during our RAIHN Week at First Universalist Church from November 10-17. You can now add yourself to the RAIHN Week schedule online through Volunteer Spot, or see Chris DeGolyer today during coffee hour.

EASTMAN LUNCHTIME CONCERTS will resume Thursday, October 13. Concerts are held in the sanctuary from 12:15 to 12:45, are free, and open to the public.
