For Two Best Friends, A Dream Comes True
They grew up best friends in a small, rural Virginia town with the same big dream – to play in the Super Bowl.

One went to a powerhouse football university and onto the NFL. The other ended up at a smaller school and changed his dream to one of pursuing a career in medicine.

But they stayed connected and cheered each other on. And when the football player achieved his Super Bowl dream, his best friend was there to watch. Juan Thornhill of the Kansas City Chiefs sent Donavan Montague, a student in the Rutgers School of Health Professions Physician Assistant program, a ticket to the big game – Super Bowl LV in Tampa.

Psych Rehab and Counseling Department Wins $2.5 Million Grant to Continue Peer Specialist Training
Our Department of Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Counseling Professions has been awarded $2.5 million dollars for peer specialist training and certification in the state of New York. This five-year funding allows for the continued operation and expansion of the Academy of Peer Services (APS) by our department. Over the past decade, APS has developed and implemented the training, testing, and tracking systems for the certification of peer specialists in New York. This is the only statewide, online, and on-demand peer support training available in the country. Our team, led by Amy Spagnolo, has shown adaptability and resilience in meeting new challenges in the rapidly changing environment of peer support services and supervision. "We are ready to meet challenges related to telehealth peer support in the aftermath of COVID-19, complicated grief related to systemic oppression, and the intersection of mental health and criminal justice," said Amy.

Make an Impact With a Gift on Rutgers Giving Day
On Rutgers Giving Day, March 24, join in a day that is all about the Rutgers community.

Rutgers strives, in all that it does, to give the world hope and action. On Rutgers Giving Day, we ask that you take a moment, if you are able, to support health care students from the School of Health Professions, who are the future of our health care workforce. In the face of extraordinary difficulty, we can still better the world together.

Empower the next generation of health care professionals through a scholarship. Support the students who are working to become essential health care workers by reducing their financial burden. Give back to a school or program that empowers you to make change in the world. And if you are not able to give, but want to show your support, spread the word about how others can make a difference using #RUGivingDay, or take part in challenges throughout the day.
