Elisabet Rivera | College Success Coach
Hello! My name is Elisabet Rivera and I am very excited to be joining the Hillsborough Education Foundation and Take Stock in Children team as the newest College Success Coach! I am a USF graduate (Go Bulls!), and I recently completed my second year of service with AmeriCorps as the College Access Coordinator at HOPE Community Center located in Apopka, Florida. I loved my experience working with high school students as I was able to empower them to take ownership of their education as they pursued various career goals. I look forward to bringing what I have learned to the TSIC team and learn from the great people I have the opportunity to work with.
Q: Who was your favorite teacher and why?
A: My favorite teacher was Ms. Redecker, my 5th grade Language Arts teacher. Ms. Redecker was an innovative teacher that used creative ways to engage her students. As a 5th grader I already knew I wanted to work with children in the future, and I remember being so impressed by Ms. Redecker's teaching methods that I would make it a point to take mental notes of the activities she had us do, so I could use them in my own classroom in the future!
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was at the Museum of Science and Industry as a birthday party hostess. Every weekend I would get to host different theme birthday parties at MOSI. Some days I got to teach kids about chemical reactions and play with slime, other days we would learn about dinosaurs and create molds of dinosaur teeth. I loved being able to teach students in such a fun environment... and eating lots of cake and ice cream!
Q: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: If I could have any superpower I would choose teleportation. Like many people, I would love to travel to many different places, but sadly that is not cheap. That is where my teleportation abilities would come in handy! The first place I would visit is Greece.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Like I mentioned in the last question, I would love to go to Greece. Greece is not just a beautiful country surrounded by water (which I love!), but it was a very influential place in ancient times and holds so much history!
