Thanksgiving Baskets 

This year we are joining the School 7 drive to supply food for their families in need. So far 9 families have asked for help. Please bring the items to church on Sunday on November 10, 17, or 24 and leave the items near the SEM cupboard in the lounge. They will be delivered to the school each week. 

Contact Sarah Singal if you can supply a frozen turkey so we can have a timely delivery. The items are frozen turkeys, boxes of mashed potatoes, boxes of stuffing, canned gravy, canned corn, canned cranberry sauce, canned yams, mini marshmallows, cooking oil, flour, sugar, rice, pasta and sauce, vegetable oil. Every little donation is appreciated.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR NOVEMBER 3, 2013:

NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, November 10: Beyond Categorical Thinking: The Van Gogh Caf� "The problem with stereotypes is not that they are wrong. The problem with stereotypes is that they reduce people to a single story." -Chimanda Adochie. We'll look at stereotypes and story in the context of our ministerial search.  Keith Kron, Director of Transitions at the UUA and Rev. Martha Munson.

NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, November 10: Our Gridlocked Government.  What does it say about our American system that we have to worry about our government shutting down or not paying its bills?  Is there a better way?  Phil Ebersole will lead a discussion.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages.  Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor.  We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.

ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST?  Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation?  Then stop by the Welcome Table  in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour.  You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!

FALL ORIENTATION SERIES: TODAY, we'll talk about our strengths and talents, involvement in the church community, and how we, as your church community, can help and support you on your faith journey. We will start at 12:15 and last for about an hour. Childcare will be provided. Please join us for one or all of these sessions.  All are welcome!

FOOD INGATHERING: Next Sunday, donations of non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit The Community Food Cupboard on Nester Street. There is a particular need for canned vegetables, soup, mac & cheese, and peanut butter.

LAST CALL FOR CHANGE DRIVE! Don't forget to bring that jar of change with you to church on Sunday!  We'll pool our pennies and other coins to support the programs of our congregation. Look for a member of the finance team in the Clara Barton Lounge before and after the service.  Copies of the 2012-13 treasurer's report will also be available.

FROM THE MINISTERIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE:  Rev. Keith Kron, director of UUA Transitions (formerly Ministerial Settlement), will visit us the weekend of November 9-10. Keith provides counsel and resources to congregations who are changing ministers and also advises ministers who are seeking churches. We can be sure that ministers interested in our church will be contacting him to ask what he thinks of us! Please come to his workshop Saturday 9th, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM (breakfast included) and the church service next Sunday November 10 to hear him preach.

FIRST UNIVERSALIST RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM could use your help!  We have openings for volunteers in all aspects of the program including teaching,  program planning, nursery care and certain one-time projects.   We hope you will join us! COFFEE AND TEA IN THE SANCTUARY:  Please avoid bringing coffee or tea (or any colored drink) into the sanctuary.  If you must have liquid at your disposal, just use water.  Your help in keeping the carpeting looking pristine will be appreciated by all.
 

THE 4^TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY SHOPPE IS COMING SOON:  beginning Sunday, November 24^th we'll be back in the Clara Barton with gifts to suit your shopping list.  Please contact   Paula Marchese at [email protected]  if you have articles to donate. 

RECYCLING: If you are willing to help with the church endeavor, please let Karen Dau know.  Your help is so appreciated!

COFFEE HOUR: The generous array of foods enjoyed each Sunday along with the coffee are an essential part of our Sunday service together.  A gentle reminder that monetary donations to MOCHA during the coffee hour are gratefully accepted.  Can we depend upon your support?  And we continue to look for two more people to help once every 6 or 7 weeks.

RAIHN HOST WEEK:The skies are blue, and leaves are turning many colors. It's a beautiful time of year, but nights are growing cooler, and some families don't have a place to live. Let's help them out during our RAIHN Week at First Universalist Church from November 10-17. You can now add yourself to the RAIHN Week schedule online through Volunteer Spot, or see Chris DeGolyer at the sign-up table during coffee hour.

EASTMAN LUNCHTIME CONCERTS: Concerts are held on Thursdays in the sanctuary from 12:15 to 12:45, are free, and open to the public.
