This Sunday we will celebrate the ministries of teaching (and learning) in our community.  We'll also reflect on some enduring wisdom from the history of liberal religious education. 10:30 a.m. Rev. Celie Katovitch.

This Week's Drop-In Discussion: 
Housing and Human Rights
.
   Philosopher and social justice activist George Payne will discuss the difference between legal rights and moral rights, the need for governments to uphold the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, and creative ways to mobilize for housing rights in our community.

We will be updating directory information during the month of October.  The directory will be available to view after Sunday services in the Clara Barton Lounge.  Please be sure to check the information that we have and make any necessary changes.  Thank you in advance for your help.
First Universalist will be a featured stop on the Landmark Society of Western New York Inside Downtown tour to be held Friday, Oct. 2 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and on Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  More information and advanced tickets are available  here .  An article is available in the Sept. 23 City Newspaper as well. 
The church's annual Leadership Assembly will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 from 8:45 am to 12:15 pm.  All committee chairs and leaders are asked to attend.  All committees should be represented as we discuss church vision, the annual calendar, committee descriptions, and communications.  Please contact Ed Deller with any questions.

CALL FOR DELEGATES!

The annual meeting for the New York State Convention of Universalists (NYSCU) will be held  Oct 23-24 in Oneonta, NY.   Mark Morrison-Reed will be the keynote speaker.  More information is available here.  First Universalist is entitled to 5 delegates.  If you are interested in being a delegate please contact Nominating Committee co-chairs Shirley Bond or Marcy Klein before Oct 7.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
 
FIRST FRIDAY FILM SERIES :  Unitarian Universalist Church of Canandaigua will have a free showing of the documentary "Vanishing Borders" on Friday, October 2 at 7:00 pm.  The church is located at 3024 Cooley Road.  Refreshments and discussion to follow the film.  Vanishing Borders is a feature documentary that tells the story of four immigrant women living in New York City, who are transforming their communities through their work, activism, and the way their cultural hybridity influences their interactions with others.  For further information, contact Lynn at [email protected].

UU HISTORY SERIES:  Our Adult Education program continues with Part 2 of the UU History Series:  The Birth of Unitarianism.  Wednesday, October 7, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Clara Barton Lounge.  For more information, visit our website.

NOT MY LIFE:  Sunday, October 18 at 6:30 p.m. at First Universalist Church of Rochester.  Filmed on five continents, in a dozen countries, Not My Life takes viewers into a world where millions of children are exploited, every day, through an atonishing array of practices including forced labor, domestic servitude, sex tourism, sexual violence, and child soldiering.  Directed by Academy Award nominee, Robert Bilheimer, Not My Life's message is ultimately one of hope.
