This Week's Drop-In Discussion: What can one person do?  Opposing people and institutions that do bad things is Whack-A-Mole activism, leading to disillusionment and discouragement.  The most powerful thing you can do is live in the Butterfly cultural story.  So says Hank Stone, who will outline his thinking, then facilitate discussion.

Donations are now being accepted via the website (uuroc.org, look for the Auction link) and via hard copy (forms available at church).  Deadline for donations is January 22, so don't wait- get yours in early!

District Assembly 2014: March 28-29, Erie PA

 

This year's District Assembly is a joint effort with the Ohio-Meadville District and the St. Lawrence District. District Assembly will take place March 28-29, 2014 at the Avalon Hotel and Convention Center, Erie, PA.  All members and friends of the congregation are invited to attend.

 

The Rev. Meg Barnhouse is the keynote speaker.  Her keynote address is titled Seeds of the Spirited Life. Gould Lecturer is Rev. Priscilla Richter, speaking on Ours Is No Caravan of Despair:Unitarian Universalism Responds to the Challenges of Our Times.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR JANUARY 12, 2014:

 

NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, January 19: TBA. Rev. Martha Munson.

 

NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, January 19: Totally Renewable Energy for New York State. Hal Bauer will share the NYS Sierra Club's goal and Energy Policy study for what 100% renewable energy for NYS by 2030 would look like, and how we all might work towards it to reduce the accelerating, long term threat of climate change disruption.

 

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages.  Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor.  We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.

 

ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST?  Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation?  Then stop by the Welcome Table  in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour.  You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!

 

FOOD INGATHERING is TODAY. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit The Community Food Cupboard. There is a particular need for  canned vegetables, soup, mac & cheese, and peanut butter.

OH WHAT A TANGLED WEB PART 3 The first stage of our name tag reorganization began January 5.  Stage 2 occurs this week.  If your last name begins with letters M-Z, and you have not already taken care of your tag, please pick it up this Sunday before service in the Clara Barton Lounge.
