Where Opportunity Knocks
Greetings from Mr. Gault

The De La Salle School has been blessed with over 200 young men who have passed through our halls over these last 19 years. We are encouraged by the hope in the eyes of the young men who sit in the same desks and walk the same halls as their De La Salle School brothers. The tradition of a brotherhood fostered by the La Salle Military Academy Alumni who paved the way for the programs and activities we provide today.
We spend much time sharing with you, our benefactors, the stories, successes and work of the young men in our school. Our 5th through 8th graders live the affirmations of those who came before them working hard each and every day to achieve their dreams. Most, with your support, go on to Catholic High School with a dream of being the first in their family to attend college. Many go on to two and four-year colleges graduating with honors and achieving success in their chosen fields.

I would like to share with you the success of Alumnus Russell Fearon - The De La Salle School Class of 2012. Russell graduated The De La Salle School attending Chaminade High School where he graduated in the top tier of his class. At Chaminade he honed his writing, debate, and business acumen. Since his childhood, he has always strived to make the world a better place, participating in community service and charitable endeavors. In 2015, he achieved the prestigious award and apex of scouting, the Eagle Scout rank.
Upon graduation Russell attended Syracuse University where he pursued his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and will complete his Masters Degree in Bioengineering & Biomedical Engineering in 2021.

While attending Syracuse University Russell was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes. From the challenge of living with this disease an idea was born creating a new way of monitoring blood glucose levels. In the summer of 2019, Russell and his partners founded SugEx LLC developing a patented insulin monitoring system integrated into a smartwatch. Together the team has won major seed funding in entrepreneurial competitions from organizations such as The American Heart Association.

Russell is a testament to the foundation provided him by your support of The De La Salle School. His accomplishments and pursuit of his dreams would not be possible without your support. I invite you to read some of the articles below, enjoy the video of Russell and his SugEx LLC partner receiving their American Heart Association Grant and join us in supporting the young men of The De La Salle School, who like Russell, are working hard to achieve their dreams.

By the way, while a student at The De La Salle School, Russell won a design contest that resulted in the "Where Opportunity Knocks" sign that greats us everyday as we enter our school assembly room. Thank you Russell!

Live Jesus in our hearts....... Forever!!!

American Heart Association EmPOWERED to Serve Business Accelerator Grant
Russell Fearon, The De La Salle School Class of 2012, a mechanical engineer in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University Class of 2020, presented his innovation story on October 17 at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. as a 2019 candidate for the EmPOWERED to Serve Business Acceleratorâ„¢ sponsored by The American Heart Association.  He was one nine national finalists in the prestigious competition.  A panel of judges selected Russell for an award of $50,000!
Fearon is the co-inventor of Sugex, a wearable device that helps people manage their diabetes. He graduated in the top tier of his class at Chaminade High School on Long Island, where he honed his writing, debate, and business acumen. Since his childhood, he has always strived to make the world a better place, participating in community service and charitable endeavors.  In 2015, he achieved the prestigious award and apex of scouting, the Eagle Scout rank.  Over the course of his collegiate tenure, Russell has landed coveted summer internship opportunities from Northrop Grumman (aerospace) in Florida to Edwards LifeSciences (medical) in California.
In the summer of 2019, Russell began to pursue his entrepreneurial desire during the Invent@SU invention accelerator.  There, working with co-inventor Ricardo Sanchez, the team synthesized affordable alternatives to help treat the worldwide diabetes epidemic.  The team is now working with the Blackstone LaunchPad powered by Techstars at SU Libraries to help bring the idea from concept to commercialization.
Congratulations Russell!
