ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR OCTOBER 13, 2013:
NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, October 20: Theologies, or How Good is Your Diet? Sometimes UUs dine at the cafeteria of beliefs and practices. We partake of a little bit of this and a little bit of that. For a time, this may be enough. As a steady diet, we might need more depth and less "pick and choose". Or not, you decide. Rev. Martha L. Munson.
NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, October 20: Social Norms and Self-Control. We will examine certain aspects of predictable irrationality, such as why we are happy to do certain things for free, but not when we are paid to do them, and why we can't make ourselves do certain things we actually want to do. This was rescheduled from Sept. 22. Bill Elwell will facilitate.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages. Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor. We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.
ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST? Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation? Then stop by the Welcome Table in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour. You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!
FOOD INGATHERING is today. Donations of non-perishable food will be collected to benefit The Community Food Cupboard on Nester Street. There is currently a particular need for canned vegetables, soup, and mac & cheese.
LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP FOR A COTTAGE MEETING! Sign up in the Clara Barton Lounge. One is today, after the service, at noon in the Adult Lounge.
CALLING ALL CRAFTERS! Are you interested in forming a group with a service-project focus? Then plan to join Lisa and Nancy after coffee hour in the back of the sanctuary this Sunday, October 13th. Bring your calendar and ideas.
FALL ORIENTATION SERIES: On October 20, Reverend Munson will lead the group in discussing where each of us has come from theologically, and where we see ourselves today. On November 3, we'll talk about our strengths and talents, involvement in the church community, and how we, as your church community, can help and support you on your faith journey. They will start at 12:15 and last for about an hour. Childcare will be provided. So please join us for one or all of these sessions. All are welcome! Contact Nancy at [email protected].
BREAD SUNDAY is next Sunday. Members are encouraged to bring their favorite home-made bread to share during coffee hour. MOCHA will provide the butter, jellies, jams, cream cheese to enrich the offerings. If you will provide bread for this service, please let Bill or Becky Elwell know of your offering.
FALL CLEAN-UP DAY THIS SATURDAY, October 19, starting at 9:00 AM. There will be all kinds of cleaning, fixing, painting, etc. jobs to be completed. Bring along your favorite tools or products. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided. Much socializing fun will also be part of the agenda.
