BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS SERVICE

UMCE will be having our annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, July 14th at the 8:30 service. All critters are welcome - furry, fuzzy or scaly! If your pet would not be fond of such an event, bring their favorite toy and we will bless that in their honor. The service will be shortened to 1/2 hour and will be held outdoors at the church. Please join us for this fun celebration of the pets that bring so much joy to our lives.

GAGA BALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Join us Sunday, July 21 following the 10:30 service for the First Annual (and Ever) UMC Evergreen Gaga Ball Championship!
As with all things Methodist, we will start with a potluck lunch. Fried chicken and beverages will be provided. Please bring a side dish to share. After lunch we will head down to the church's Gaga Ball Court on site. All ages and abilities are welcome and encouraged to participate. Contact Sarah at [email protected] with any questions.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY FESTIVAL & CAR SHOW
Saturday, July 20th from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join us for the church's Christmas in July Festival and Classic Car Show! There will be a craft sale, silent auction, bake sale, flea market, and live music. There will also be a food vendor on site with hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.
Free admission and donations welcome to support UMCE Missions.

the fundraiser team would appreciate it!! We will start at 7:00 am.

Lanelle and Mari moved into their new home yesterday and we
couldn't be happier for them! Lanelle has committed to staying engaged with Family Promise in our Home Program. This continued support will allow Lanelle to properly heal from a much needed surgery that had been delayed for several months due to their housing instability. We could not be more excited for this little family as they
transition from surviving to thriving. We are grateful to walk alongside them as they continue to work on their goals.

Bishop Karen Oliveto invites all lay and clergy on a journey to explore our Wesleyan Heritage. The trip will take place April 13-21, 2020. During these anxious times for those of us called United Methodists there is no better way to respond than returning to our roots and deeply immersing ourselves in the rich history of our movement. Tour historic places like the York Minster Cathedral, Epworth, Christ Church College, and Bristol. Time in London will lead you to Aldersgate Street, where you too may have a heartwarming experience. Come celebrate and learn about our unique Wesleyan Heritage and the people called Methodists. The price for the 9 day trip starts at $3,500. AIRPORT DEPARTURE FOR THE GUATEMALA MISSION TEAM

| LOOKING FOR SOMEONE IN JULY TO ASSIST IN A DOG WALKING MINISTRY NEED WITH CANDY HASTEDT |
We have been assisting a local woman who has been unable to walk her dog due to health issues. We anticipate her recovery by the end of July. The dog has a dog run, but Krista would like Huwey to get a daily walk. Candy Hastedt has graciously been doing this 3 days a week, and we're looking for someone to do an additional couple of days -- your choice of time. Candy reports the 40 lb dog is gentle and walks well. This is in the Bear Mountain area just off Little Cub Creek Rd. Please contact Pastor Deb if you could help {and get a bonus of some exercise, too}.

ECHO SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM
|
|
|
UMCE has been given the privilege again this year to prepare meals for the EChO clients and volunteers the last week in June, July and August. Our remaining dates will be July 22 & 24 and August 26 & 29.
Last year we prepared food for approximately 400 people during the summer months, and received very sincere appreciation from EChO. The ECho lunch program was started in 2010, and since then five area churches have been taking part in this program from September through May. Last year was the first time the lunch program was continued during the summer months. For some people, this is the only meal they might receive that day.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE SESSION REPORT
|
The one-year-birthday gathering of the Mountain Sky Conference took place at the Montana
Convention Center in Billings, Montana, June 13 - 16. Pastor Deb Olenyik and Jeanne Ambrosier attended as voting members. The theme of this year's conference was "Love, Heal, Thrive: Rebuilding a Worthy Temple."
A major part of Annual Conference were times to worship God and celebrate the connection across our four state region. We opened Annual Conference with a time of anointing and healing for the current state of our denomination. We heard outstanding, inspiring preaching by J.J. Warren of New York and Bishop Gregory Palmer of West Ohio, as well as our own Bishop Karen Oliveto, Rev. Yvette Kristie, Rev. Ryan Canaday and Rev. Calvin Hill. Among these services, we remembered our baptisms, received the sacrament of communion, honored those clergy who had passed and ordained several new elders and deacons.
On Friday morning all conference attendees immersed themselves in a time of service,
education and advocacy in the Billings area focusing on our missional theme of "Addiction, Health and Justice." The "

held at the Mission Dinner and Celebration raised $8,500 to support the development of suicide prevention resources for local congregations and Angola pastors. Other offerings throughout the conference raised an additional $13,500 for various projects within our region and beyond.
In addition to many standard agenda items, {such as pastors' minimum compensation, camp matters and the conference budget}, this year we elected delegates to the
2020 General Conference {May 2020} and the Western Jurisdiction Conference
{July 2020}. These are held every four years. We were able to celebrate, unlike many Annual Conferences, that we have no unfunded clergy liability relating to benefits for our retired clergy.
A
mong the petitions passed were two on the consent calendar, with over 95% approval, which related to responses to actions of the Special General Conference held in February 2019. One petition called for the Mountain Sky Conference not to impose the punitive measures passed by the Special General Conference, affirmed the Mountain Sky Conference's continued path of including all without gender identification exceptions, and addressed the concern of the vulnerability of some of our colleagues. It also affirmed that churches in this region have wide theological and social issue contexts, and they would not be required to accept pastors who did not align with the values of their context or require churches to perform same-sex marriages -with the emphasis for all churches and clergy to be engaged in effective ministry and discipleship. The other petition in this area directed the conference leadership team {a group of 23 clergy and lay persons from the conference boards, staff and ministry teams} to form a special team to develop options for moving forward, including listening sessions throughout the conference and at least quarterly communications to the conference on their progress.
A late petition was brought forward and approved by an 80% vote calling on the Western Jurisdiction College of Bishops to convene a special Western Jurisdiction Conference prior to the 2020 General Conference with the purpose of developing a process for the entire region moving forward.

MINISTRY JOTTINGS BY PASTOR DEB

Mere Life
A few years ago, I had a conversation with a 92-year-old gentleman who radiated a special presence and a strong and genuine serenity. Somewhere in the mist of our conversation he said, "As I get older I seem to place less importance on material things." And then, after a pause, he continued, "Come to think of it, I place less importance on importance."
There is something very special about life, but many people miss it. In our overemphasis on "important" things, we often overlook the intrinsic value of life itself. We have confused form with essence. We have placed our supreme value on surface things and have forgotten the substance. We have begun to believe what we read on the internet or see on TV, and have put so many overlays on our life that we can no longer see the fine-grained texture of everyday life itself, the mystery of the ordinary.
A wise friend told me once that if you have to move even ten inches from where you are now in order to be happy, you probably never will be. Life becomes precious and more special to us when we look for the little everyday miracles and get excited again about the privilege of simply being human.
You and I are alive. It is a privilege that none of us can fully comprehend. The grace of everyday living is a gift.
