For the past several months we have been sending out our
e-newsletter weekly to provide you COVID-19 updates in one central location. We will be returning to our monthly format for the time being and will resume sending more frequently if the situation warrants. 
2020 IAFP Annual Conference Canceled
 
With the health and safety of our attendees as our top priority, the IAFP has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 IAFP Annual Conference in November. 
 
We will be holding our Annual Business Meeting virtually and will share more information on how to join at a later date.
 
We had planned an exciting program with excellent speakers for 2020 and are hopeful they will be able to join us next year. 

Please save the date for October 28-30, 2021 and plan on joining us at the West Des Moines Sheraton for our 2021 Annual Conference.

AAFP Announces Congress of Delegates & FMX are Going Virtual 
 AAFP announced last week that due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19 the Congress of Delegates & FMX are moving to a virtual format this year. More information can be found HERE.
 
Due to this announcement  IAFP is discontinuing our call for  
Resolutions.
 
Emergency Proclamation Extended
On Thursday, June 25, Governor Reynolds signed a new proclamation continuing the Public Health Disaster Emergency, extending the public health mitigation measures that are currently in place as well as many of the regulatory relief measures previously implemented. The State Public Health Emergency Declaration proclamation is in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Click here to read the full Proclamation.

AAFP COVID-19 CME
The AAFP is offering a series of COVID-19 webinars and virtual town halls for CME credit. You can find the schedule and archived material HERE.

Headshots Needed for 
Help with Special Project!
We are planning a very special issue of our Fall magazine to honor and recognize all Iowa family physicians and we need your help!

AAFP National Student and Resident Conference Going Virtual
In light of COVID-19 and with respect to the health and safety of all involved, National Conference is going virtual. Iowa Concussion Consortium to Hold Virtual Conference on July 29
The Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa will host it's 4th annual Iowa Concussion Consortium conference 'A Plan in Action' virtually on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. The Iowa Concussion Consortium works to address the statewide need for reliable information about concussions in Iowa. This year's program will highlight keynote speaker Dr. John Leddy from Buffalo, New York part of a team that worked to assess the effectiveness of sub-symttom threshold aerobic exercise for adolescents in the acute phase of recovery from sports related concussions. In addition, there will be opportunities for attendees to break out into workshop presentations that will run concurrently. Break out sessions include:
  • The Concussion Clinic: An Interdisciplinary Approach for Improved Outcomes presented by staff from two of Iowa's concussion clinics
  • Return to Play Protocols: Following a Student Athlete Following Concussion presented by a neuropsychologist and certified athletic trainer
  • Supporting the Student: The Educator View presented by Brain Injury Project Manager with the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa
  • Concussion Management at Home presented by Outreach and Resource Manager with the Brain Injury Alliance of Iowa
