NAWBO Silicon Valley Celebrates

The 30th Anniversary of HR 5050

PLUS, Our Panel Discusses the Signing of SB 826 and Women on Corporate Boards

NAWBO Silicon Valley celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the passage of HR 5050! This is the landmark Women's Business Ownership Act that gives women in business the recognition, resources and eliminates the discriminatory practices by banks that previously favored male owners.

In addition, we would also like to thank our members and friends in helping us shatter another glass ceiling that has given us a seat at the table in corporate board rooms when Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 826 requiring women on corporate boards in California.

According to the Silicon Valley Bank Startup Outlook Survey, 71% of startups companies in the U.S. don't have any women on their Board of Directors; yet statistics show that companies with female Board members outperform their competitors. As a champion of women initiatives,The National Association of Women Business Owners California recently sponsored the bill SB 826 to get more women on Corporate Boards.

In an effort to empower women business owners and professionals, please join NAWBOSilicon Valley and our panel of recruiters, Board members and experts, for a discussion on Women on Corporate Boards in Silicon Valley.

During this session, you'll discover:
  • The business value of adding women to Corporate Boards
  • Best Practices for building your Board and what to look for in new Board members
  • Tips on becoming a Board member and how it can benefit your career or business
  • What to expect when you join a Corporate Board
  • Other considerations for joining a Board (Board governance requirements, conflicts of interest, etc.)
Silicon Valley is world-renowned for its innovation and leadership, and with such a vast talent pool of qualified female executives in this region, we have the opportunity to become a leader once again in driving change at the executive level. This panel will bring practical insights for how to build your Board or Directors and what it takes to join a Board with an eye toward the value that diversity brings to any organization.

Guests will also have the opportunity to network over dinner at the Silicon Valley Capital Club.
