Sermon
"The Four Freedoms"
Rev. Glenn Farley from Sedona Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will discuss
FDR's "Four Freedoms," his 1941 speech on this subject, and how these freedoms
continue to inform us today.
Rev. Robin is preaching in Sedona today.
This Sunday the elementary children will talk about how to be a welcoming community
.
Following the Service
Members are asked to remain after the service and help move chairs out of the way so that staining and finishing of the exposed wood in the Sanctuary ceiling can be done on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Help will be greatly appreciated.

Departure of our Director of Religious Exploration,
Amy Huntereece
With gratitude for her many gifts and for her valuable contributions to the life of Beacon UU Congregation, we accept the resignation, without duress or request, of our DRE Amy Huntereece, effective November 18, 2019.
In her note to us, Amy said, "
I appreciate the professional support and learning opportunities I have had at Beacon." Please wish her well in her future endeavors when you see her at church this Sunday.
I am already collaborating with various staffers and Beacon members to craft our plan for Religious Exploration moving forward, and we have some exciting ideas in the works for the New Year! Stay tuned.
Sunday school classes will take place November 17, November 24, December 8 and December 15. All other services in November and December will be worship for all ages in the Sanctuary.
Building Bridges, Chalice Circles, and other programs will continue as scheduled. Taco Tuesday and TED Talks will be on hiatus.

Session One: Your Journey - Sharing Our Stories and Spiritual Roadmaps; The Unitarian Universalist Journey &; The Journey of our Congregation
Session Two: Our Journey Together - The 3 Paths of Unitarian Universalism, Part I & 2; Finding Your Tribe
Beverages and light refreshments in the morning; bring a brown bag lunch for more conversation with Rev. Robin from 12-1. Participants will be invited to sign the membership book after the second retreat. A new member welcome ceremony will also take place during the service on Sunday, November 24. Childcare Provided. Chalice Circles
November 24 & 26
Touchstones Chalice Circles are designed to meet our needs for belonging (intimacy) and meaning (ultimacy) by building friendships and providing opportunities to ponder life's questions, small and large, with others who share the common values of our UU Principles.
Chalice Circle continues to meet on the 4th Sunday & Tuesday of each month. Discussion examines subjects as provided in the monthly journal of Unitarian Universalism,
Touchstones.
To meet the needs of the congregation, we have made attendance open.

Men's Astronomy Evening
December 4, 2019 at 7pm
All adult men are invited to gather the evening of Wednesday, Dec 4 at 7 pm for an evening of astronomy and comradery. We'll gather at my house (2675 E Hemberg Drive) and hope for a clear evening. Jeff Pickens will bring his 120mm refractor telescope and a mounted binocular set. The moon will be about half full, so less than ideal for deep sky viewing. But, I'm told we should see some star clusters and planets. Ask Jeff about his recent filming of the transit of Mercury across the sun.
I'll have some "refreshments" and perhaps a few snacks. A heads up if you plan to come would be nice, so I'll know how many to expect.

Religious Exploration For All Ages
The middle school youth will visit the
International Kadampa Retreat Center
on Sunday morning as part of their study of world religions. Thank you so much to their teacher, Dru Monroe, for guiding them through this journey. Thank you also to the parent volunteers who are assisting as teachers and chaperones! We appreciate you! This Sunday the elementary children will talk about how to be a
welcoming community.
Then next Sunday, November 24, all are encouraged to:
- Bring a Friend to service!
- And...at 11:00 AM, attend the family potluck and movie.

Social Justice Allies (SJA)
On Saturday, November 23, 10-12 there will be a League of Women Voters Advocacy Training workshop in Camp Verde.
The Greater Verde Valley chapter of the LWV has developed an engaged membership; they have arranged for the state level LWV Advocacy Chair to facilitate this two-hour training. Sending even a small Beacon delegation to participate will prepare us for our non-partisan work-the League has a non-partisan requirement, too-in the months to come.

Building Project Update

Dear fellow congregants - we hope that you are enjoying the new spaces and the fruit of your generosity and labor! It is wonderful to see us spread out through the building after service and not clustered in a crowded vestibule space. Things will be even better when we complete the Beacon projects (as opposed to the Contractor's).
Which brings us to the point: We are very appreciative of the reliable, and some cases early, payments already made to the capital campaign fund. It is now very important that we all complete paying our remaining pledge amounts during the coming year! We will need that money to repay our member lenders for their bridging loans to the project. These allowed us to pay off the Contractor and Architect at the end of their part of the work, even though we had not received all pledges. Now is the time to begin accumulating remaining pledge payments in order to reimburse our lenders on October 1, 2020. If you have questions about the status of your capital campaign pledge, please contact Holly Taylor, 606-5211. She is maintaining financial records of the campaign.
AND, don't forget that we continue to have need for volunteer labor as we complete the interior and exterior projects that will give us a completed and functional facility for many years to come. What a fine gift to ourselves and the future!

Faith Floods the Courtroom
We're calling on people of faith and people of conscience from across the country to flood the court room at
405 W. Congress St. in Tucson, on
November 20th at 8am. We will show up in support of UU Scott Warren, Human Rights activist with No More Deaths facing 20 years of jail for providing life saving aid to migrants in the desert.

November Share the Plate Partner
For October and November, Beacon UU is sharing the plate with Flagstaff Family Food Center. Serving around 63,000 daily meals per year in their location on N. Second Street, the Center also provides a children's reading room, delivers to the Flagstaff Shelter Services an evening meal for those who might be staying the night, and provides Back Door and Mobile Sack Lunches. They have a food rescue program from local grocery stores and distribute food no longer good for human consumption to local farms and ranches, so there is zero waste.
Undesignated contributions in this month's offerings above $350 will be presented to the Share The Plate partner. Nominations for 501c3 agencies can be made through a form located at the top of the stairs in the CAC folder, or contact Office@beaconuu.com
