10:30 a.m. Service:
All Hallows.
With Halloween just two days away, we’ll remember some of the more “saintly” (or not) of our own ghosts, both individually and as a congregation, and reflect on our continuing relationship with them.
As a special treat, Jim Scott, UU composer, poet, performer, and activist will be joining us for this service. Jim wrote “Gather the Spirit,” one of our most popular hymns, which we’ll be singing, along with some of his other music. Jim has created an extensive body of work, including the Paul Winter Consort’s “Missa Gaia/Earth Mass,” PBS soundtracks, award-winning choral works, and seven CDs of original music. We will be blessed by his music and his presence with us.
9:15 a.m. Drop-in Discussion:
Fantasyland
. Has the great American experiment gone off the trail or have been been off the trail since the beginning? It’s a subject Kurt Andersen explores in a new book,
Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire
. Bill Elwell will lead a discussion in which he touches lightly on the evidence and argument Andersen puts forth in this provocative interpretation of American history.

Cozy Night Supper will be held Friday,

from 5:30-7:30 in the Clara Barton Lounge. Our potluck dinner will be from 5:30-6:30. The program, from 6:30-7:30 led by our Eco-Justice Group, includes a video describing

Our Book Group selection for the month of October is
"Saving Faith"
by Elizabeth Osta. She has agreed to lead a discussion of her wonderful memoir. Elizabeth is an accomplished storyteller, so this should be an event too good to miss. The Fairport library has a copy as does First Universalist. We will meet in the Chalice Room on Sunday,

UU & YOU - AN INTRODUCTION TO OUR CHURCH:
Held the first Sunday of each month starting on

Come to an informal informational gathering especially designed for visitors and friends who want to know more about us and our liberal religious movement. This roughly 45-minute get-together offers attendees an opportunity to get to know one another and this congregation better, and includes a quick overview of Unitarian Universalist history and principles, and the story of this congregation. No registration required -- just drop in when you can.
THURSDAY LUNCHTIME CONCERTS:
Eastman at Washington Square Thursday lunchtime concerts take place right here at First Universalist. The concerts begin at 12:15 p.m. and end at approximately 12:45 p.m. Brown bag lunches are welcome during the performances, and admission is free. This week, compositions for violin and piano by Eastman School of Music faculty member David Temperley will be performed by Soo Yeon Kim on violin and David Temperley on piano.
