NEXT SERVICE: Sunday, February 9: Theodicy: the Problem of EvilEvil is a source of no small distress among religious liberals. Where does the "bad stuff" come from and why can't (don't) we do more to combat it? Rev. Martha Munson
NEXT DROP-IN DISCUSSION: Sunday, February 9: How Big Box Stores Impact the Community They offer cheap prices, all-in-one shopping and consistency from store to store, but what are the costs of having big box stores in your community? How do they impact local taxes, governments, politics, services, education, employment, traffic, and community organizations? What happens when a big box displaces a local business? Can this trend be stopped? Facilitated by Dwight Montague.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:Kids ages four and older join us every week in the sanctuary for the first portion of our worship service. Children's Worship begins after the Message for All Ages. Nursery care for babies and younger children is provided throughout the service on the second floor. We also have seating in our second floor foyer, where parents can hold their little ones and listen to the service via speaker.
ARE YOU NEW TO FIRST UNIVERSALIST? Have you come a few times and want to find out more about Unitarian Universalism and our congregation? Then stop by the Welcome Table in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee hour. You'll find friendly folks there every Sunday who are eager to talk with you!
FOOD INGATHERING: The monthly Food Ingathering is next Sunday, February 9. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected to benefit The Community Food Cupboard on Nester Street. There is a particular need for soup, canned vegetables, and mac & cheese.
THE BIG DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED! Our annual service auction will be held today after the service in the Clara Barton Lounge. A delicious lunch will be available while you sign in and get your bidder number- then let the bidding begin! If you didn't get a chance to look at our many offerings in the auction, we have extra booklets available for you. Don't miss out on the fun- or our biggest fundraiser of the year!
PRINTED DIRECTORY: It's been some time since a printed directory has been published. Before we do so, we want to be sure the information is accurate. We would like you to confirm, correct, or add your information by the end of February. Look for our master copy, along with directions, in the Clara Barton Lounge beginning January 12. Thanks for your help.
TRAIN FOR RAIHN (Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network) Please join all the wonderful volunteers who host temporarily homeless families at our church. Enjoy meeting new people and working together as you provide a welcoming place to stay during our next RAIHN Week from February 23 to March 2. Most volunteer spots are for a couple of hours. Step 1: Attend the two-hour RAIHN volunteer training program on Tuesday, February 4th, from 6:30-8:30 PM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 28 Lincoln Ave in Pittsford. You will learn what the RAIHN program is all about as well as the skills you need to volunteer. Step 2: Contact Chris DeGolyer ([email protected] or 461-3616) to sign up for a volunteer spot during RAIHN Week. Questions? Ask Chris or Marti Eggers or Sarah Singal.
