George Augustus Henry Sala was an author and journalist who wrote extensively for the Illustrated London News as G. A. S. and was most famous for his articles and leaders for The Daily Telegraph. Original 1759 accounts and maps of the French Indian war at Quebec and Crown Point (New York).

Included are 2 maps of

1) the Island of Orleans with the Environs of Quebec [issued within a month of the surrender of Quebec]

2) An Authentic  Plan of the River St. Laurence from Sillery to the Falls of Montmorency.

In the original extra blind decorated green cloth, pictorial gilt decorations on the upper covers, gilt  titles and decorations on the spines, stamping  faded, corners and spine crushed. Hinges are cracked on both volumes.
Volume 2 on the front end paper has a full page inscription about someone placing "poppy petals" (none there now) inside the pages from 1 to 53 and dated 1863?. Internally age toned paper and some spotting  on borders of plates.
4  chromolithograph  plates entitled "Cape Hotham", "Breaking through the ice", "Resolute winter quarters" and "Sledge travelling", all drawn by Lieutenant Osborn and lithographed by M & N Hanhart, and 7 engraved illustrations in text. Earl Hodgson, Perthshire, Scotland. 7 lines on one sheet. Providing the recipient with information, in part: "...I have asked the Department of Marine and Fisheries to supply you with all information in their possession. I will ask them again to comply with your requests as soon as possible, if it has not already been done..."   Darkening along center bottom and pin hole in center of letter where letter was folded, otherwise in very good condition.

Typed Letter Signed (TLS) 8 x 10 inches, from Prime Minister W.L. Mackenzie King dated July 13, 1942 on black Prime Minister letterhead to Alex D. Bruce, Unionville, Ontario - re death of mutual friend George Brodie (helped in elections) and the death of Mrs. Bruce.
Letter content marked "personal" by King on the top of the letterhead starts out with King not realizing his friend George Brodie has died and thanks his other friend, Alex D.
