Program Host: Mary Pat Scofield
|
|
This week our program will feature Dennis and Loni Rahm, who will share with us the story of their creation of Lake Chelan Now and the process of growing a new business, working together with your spouse, and what they have planned as this 21st Century News venture continues to evolve!
Dennis and Loni both have extensive backgrounds in media, sports broadcasting, writing, marketing, and tourism.
Locally, Dennis was the voice of Chelan High School sports for 15 years on KOZI. Loni served as the Executive Director of the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce from 1993-2000, and then was the CEO of Bellingham-Whatcom County Tourism for almost 10 years. In 2018, they merged their collective skills and experience with the launch of Lake Chelan Now.
Both Dennis and Loni are past Presidents of the Lake Chelan Rotary Club. They have been married for 34 years and have 5 children.

Storybook Libraries Continues to Grow Through Donations
|
Gunnar Baker, son of Lake Chelan Rotarian Chris Baker, was a guest at the July 9 lunch meeting and brought along a number of books for donation to Storybook Libraries. His contributions were recognized by Lester Cooper, seen here with Gunnar. The books will be shipped to Kenya to be added to one of the three primary schools who are beneficiaries of this program.

You can also help students in one of these primary schools by donating school supplies to go with the 27 Rotary backpacks donated by Lester Cooper. Bring pencils, pens, notebooks, etc. to an upcoming lunch meeting so that he can start preparing them for an upcoming trip to Kenya.

A Note from Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise
|
|
Fellow Rotarians,
I am writing you this message as a plea to help a member and his wife in our Family of Rotary. Those of you on social media may already know, but I felt it important to reach out to everyone.
Past District Governor and dear friend Bruce Falkins (Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise) and his wife Donna have been travelling the last several weeks across Canada and the USA. On Saturday July 6th, their trip of a lifetime came to an abrupt halt when the RV they were travelling in was hit from behind as they stood still in traffic in Denver, Colorado. The semi truck hit them from behind at full speed and both Bruce and Donna suffered injuries. They were transported to hospital where Bruce continues to recover, is in stable condition and is doing relatively well. Donna received much more serious injuries and is in intensive care. She has already undergone multiple surgeries and will have another on July 10th. Her injuries include those to both legs, spine, aorta, broken bones and internal injuries.
Bruce and Donna's daughter has flown to Denver to be with her parents and help in any way that she can. Liz Anderson, a family friend and fellow Rotarian in Denver, is also at the hospital. She has set up a GoFundMe page to help the Falkins' as they continue their incredibly long road to recovery.
When Bruce was District Governor in 2014/2015, his conference theme was "The Family of Rotary". Bruce and Donna need their Rotary Family now, more than ever. Please, as a friend and fellow Rotarian, I ask each of you to send happy thoughts, positive vibes, prayers from a higher power.....whatever you are most comfortable with.....please send those to Bruce and Donna. I am in contact with Liz who is updating me regularly, and Bruce texts me occasionally as well. I will update as best I can.
A
GoFundMe
Page has been set up by Liz in Colorado; Please click
here
for the link.
The link is also available through the District Facebook page, the Rotary Club of Kelowna Facebook page, and several other clubs who have already shared it. You can also go to
www.gofundme.com
and search "Rotarians Bruce and Donna Falkins RV Crash".
Some of you have already expressed concern about donating to the page because of the exchange rate or the admin fee. For those of you who prefer, particularly on the Canadian side of our District, I have set up a gmail account where you can send email transfers directly to Bruce. As I receive the emails, they will be forwarded to Bruce and he will be able to deposit funds directly into his account. If you'd like to make a donation and help the Falkins' family in this fashion, please send email transfers to
BruceAndDonna5060@gmail.com.
If you choose to make a donation through this Gmail address instead of the GoFundMe page, please make the password Rotary. That way it is easy for Bruce to receive.
If you have any concerns, or would like further information, please don't hesitate to contact me by cell or email. I will do my best to keep everyone informed as best I can. Please refrain from calling Bruce directly, or sending flowers to him. Please keep him and Donna and their family in your thoughts and prayers. Rotary can do wonderful things and we will be there for our friend.
Kindly,
Marjolein Lloyd
