CHRISTIAN DEVELOPMENT - LENT 2021

Our theme for Lent this year is based on the book The Common Rule: Habits of Purpose for an Age of Distraction by Justin Whitmel Earley.

The Common Rule has 2 main goals:

  1. To wake us up to the idea that we already have default patterns of everyday habits that are forming enormous parts of our spiritual lives, primarily unconsciously, and
  2. To offer a path toward intentional spiritual formation that will enable us to more fully Walk in God’s Way and Serve in God’s World.

Here’s how to participate:

  1. Read the book – available through Indigo or Amazon We also have a few copies available at the church – please contact Kevin
  2. Try The Common Rule habits
  3. Join Judy (Wednesdays at 1 pm) or Kevin (Wednesdays at 7 pm) for a Zoom group or form a group with some friends
  4. Read the Daily Read & Reflect Scripture verses (in the Resource Package)
  5. Watch the videos and listen to the podcast (links are in the Resource Package)
  6. Go all in and do it all!

If you opt not to read the book, don’t worry – You can learn about The Common Rule habits by watching the videos!

You may choose to try one daily and one weekly habit each week and then put them all together in week 5, or you can add the new habits each week while continuing with the previous weeks’ habits.

Let’s all come together in common purpose by practicing these habits that will strengthen our faith and help us Walk in God’s Way and Serve in God’s World!

SURVEY

The Board and Leadership of Marshall Memorial United Church needs your feedback as we continue to work to Walk in God's Way and Serve in God's World in 2021.

This anonymous survey takes about 9 minutes to complete. We ask about your experience of Marshall over the past year and how you see our future.

Thank you for participating.

FROM THE BOARD CHAIR

At the recent Board Meeting the decision was made to begin the process of searching for our new minister.

The first step involves the formation of a Search Committee. If you are a member or adherent of Marshall and are interested in joining the committee, or if you have any questions regarding the process please contact either the acting Secretary of the Board, Charlotte Stewart ( 905- 628- 0509) or the Chair of the Board, Jan Thompson (905-648-1720).

We would like to present the names of interested, prospective members at our next Board meeting on March 8th. Thank you for considering this request.

Sincerely, Jan Thompson

PRAYER TEAM

In February, we plan to pray for people 80 years and up. We invite you to send the names of any that you think are in need of extra prayer support this month to Patty Cheshire at [email protected] or 905-389-6373 or on Marshall's Facebook page. Thank you.

GOD IS ON THE MOVE!
From Annette: Yesterday Erin sent me a mix of the song, Pride, that the band had done as I was driving to Waterloo. I looked at the truck ahead of me while listening and this is what I was looking at as the song Pride played in my car! Look at the mud-flaps on the truck!

For those that missed our service last Sunday, one of the songs sung by the Contemporary team was "Pride - In the Name of Love".
