PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
June marks Pride Month which is one of many reminders of how lucky we are to be part of an industry that is welcoming to all and one that embraces diversity. I am honored to represent an industry who saw almost every one of our corporate brands recognized as "Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality" by the Human Rights Campaign.

Yesterday, I was able to spend time with dozens of our members in Peoria and Bloomington/Normal. Hearing directly from our hotels in various regions throughout the state has been invaluable as I work with our board and the IHLA staff to map out the future of the organization. These insights, combined with our comprehensive strategic plan which will be released in July, will help IHLA continue to grow and provide greater value to our members.

Lastly, Chicago's new Mayor, Lori E. Lightfoot, joined more than 100 of our members this morning for a productive conversation about her vision for the future of the city. We emphasized how important it is for her to be a champion for tourism not only for the economic wellbeing for Chicago but for the entire state. We will continue to develop stronger relationships with key lawmakers, including Mayor Lightfoot and other elected officials throughout the state, in the weeks to come.

GOVERNMENT   AFFAIRS
Yesterday, you received a full recap of Illinois' 2019 legislative session. While many of our issues were ultimately resolved, many more remain to be considered in upcoming sessions. Tomorrow, IHLA will host a webinar, at 10am CT, to provide our members with a full rundown of the new laws that were recently passed and impact Illinois hotels. We hope that you can join us.

In Chicago, during last week's first City Council meeting of the new administration, the Fair Workweek Ordinance was reintroduced. Mayor Lightfoot and leaders within City Council have expressed a strong desire to pass the ordinance in the next several weeks. IHLA continues to make a strong case for hotel-friendly changes that take into account the realities of scheduling our employees. We are still in need of hotel owners, management companies, GMs and employees to speak with Aldermen about the impacts this ordinance would have on their operations. If you are interested in advocating on the industry's behalf, please let us know as soon as possible.
