Student Spotlight - Gade Rachana
|
|
|
Hello Raiders,
My name is Gade Rachana. I am an international student from south India, Telangana, Nalgonda. Currently I am in my first semester of Pharmacology and Toxicology Masters. The most interesting part of Wright State University is that UCIE organizes many events which are very interesting, one of which is Convo Club, where we can improve our English language efficiency. Because of these critical COVID times, there are no in person events, but UCIE is making sure to organize all events virtually. By being a part of the WSU community we can meet may people from different countries and learn different cultures and traditions. The best part is that we can try different varieties of food. Food connects people. Hope everything will come to normal soon and we can be in college and attend face to face classes.

|
A special shout-out this week goes to our new students for Spring 2021! You are so brave to have came to WSU during such unprecedented times. We appreciate your courage!
|
|
Would you like to give a shout out to a friend, faculty, or staff? Do you want to thank someone for their help? DM us on Facebook (@WSU.UCIE) or email us at askucie@wright.edu and we will feature it on our next week's newsletter.

Welcome Letter from the Director,
Michelle Streeter-Ferrari

Welcome, Students!
This academic year is certainly not what we expected, however, the University Center for International Education (UCIE) is even more committed to your success. We are your home-away-from-home whether you are a new international student, a continuing student, or a student planning to go abroad. Know that UCIE is still here to serve you!
You are the bravest of the brave. Not only have you made a decision to study in a different country to pursue your education, you have done so in the middle of a global pandemic. Your commitment to your future is admirable. Like the Wright Brothers, you are the innovators, the creators, and the entrepreneurs of our future. You represent the very best of Wright State and the world.
The staff of the UCIE are available by email or by phone at 937-775-5745 Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. You may also join our various virtual events and programming on-line this Spring Semester. Make sure you like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/WSU.UCIE.
For any emergencies, please call the Wright State University Police at 937-775-2111.
We have done everything as an institution to keep you safe during this time and will continue to support you during your time at Wright State. Be proud of your accomplishments, but do not be afraid to reach out for help or just to talk to a friendly advocate in the UCIE. We are here for you and YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!
Have a wonderful start to this new semester!
Sincerely,
Michelle Streeter-Ferrari, Director

Spring OPT application process is now open. You can access and complete all required documents for the OPT application.
If you are an international student graduating in the Spring 2021 semester, you may start applying for OPT after January 31, 2021.
Choose an OPT start date between May 2 and June 30, 2021.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have any reservations regarding graduation for Spring 2021 semester, please do not apply for OPT until after semester end grades have been posted.
|
|
How can I apply for an OPT I-20 and where can I obtain it since the UCIE office is closed?
Although the campus is temporarily closed, OPT applications are still being processed daily. Please scan and email the application with department approval to fei.yu@wright.edu. After it is processed, we will mail the I-20 to you.
Maintaining status on OPT is still the same as usual
You are permitted only 90 days of unemployment between the start and end dates on your EAD card. In addition, you are required to report the following information through the SEVP Portal while on OPT within 10 days from the change:
1. When you start a new job.
2. When you change addresses.
3. Periods of unemployment.
4. 6-month validation (You can email fei.yu@wright.edu after you update your employment information and residential address through SEVP Portal)
Can I travel back to my home country during OPT period?
Please be aware that if you are unemployed for more than 90 days, you will lose your OPT status. Also, during this uncertain time, we do not suggest international travel as there is no guarantee of open borders.
