TP Southwind to welcome CrimeStoppers teams
to a September 30 golf tournament
Sixty-four days after the top golfers in the world compete in the FedEx St. Jude Invitational World Golf Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, supporters of CrimeStoppers will sponsor and/or play the same course to help fight crime in the community.

The third annual Phelps Security CrimeStoppers Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019. Check-in for teams begins at 8 and start time for play is 9:30.

Those who want to help fight felony crime in the city can do so two ways:

1. By becoming a sponsor of the event -  send queries to   info@crimestopmem.org

2. By signing a foursome to play - http://crimestopmem.org/golf-tournament

This year's title sponsor - Phelps Security - is a long-time supporter of CrimeStoppers and local law enforcement organizations. The company holds a free monthly meeting in which local crime statistics and crime-fighting efforts are spotlighted.

Other sponsors committed so far include TBC Corporation, Value Logistics, Watkins-Uiberal, Dillard Door & Security, Splash Creative, Gary and Frances Paulson, BankTennessee, Impact Brokerage, Outback Steakhouse, J&R Restaurants, Herbi-Systems, and Wolfchase Toyota.

Other sponsorships at various levels are available to companies who wish to help in this way - and receive the marketing focus that comes with a sponsorship.

Up to 25 teams of four players can sign up for Sept. 30. Several teams have committed but there are plenty of openings and reservations are being taken.

New CrimeStoppers 'hot case'
carries $26,000 cash award

CrimeStoppers has created a poster letting the public know that a $26,000 award is available to any tipster who provides information that directly leads or helps lead to an arrest by police in the Glenn Cofield homicide case.

To download and print the poster,  click here

Cofield had left a fundraising gathering at a private home in Midtown the night of June 7, 2019 when he was approached beside his car by a gunman. The hooded man fired a shot, killing Cofield, and then fled in a car.

As is often the case, the smallest detail - appearance of the getaway car, part of a license plate number, any detail about the shooter or the clothes he was wearing, something heard in a conversation - could break this case open.

CrimeStoppers periodically focuses on unsolved and recent hot cases, as well as older cold cases, on its website here.

CrimeStoppers
by the numbers

CrimeStoppers board members approved $9,300 cash payments  to 22 citizens who provided tips that led to arrests in various felony cases during the month of June.

The cases included five aggravated robberies, one carjacking, four aggravated assaults and one homicide. Altogether 17 cases were cleared, thanks to the tips, and 22 felons were arrested. One case occurred in 2016.

Thirteen of those arrested were fugitives from justice. Tipsters supplied their locations.

An Awards Committee of the board of directors meets monthly to go over tips and the cases they represent. They decide if awards are to be made and how much each award should be.
