Public Allies Milwaukee Presentation of Impact Summit 2019

Public Allies Milwaukee hosted its annual Presentation of Impact Summit on Friday, June 21.  Thirty-eight AmeriCorps members gave overview presentations of their individual service at distinct nonprofit organizations throughout the Milwaukee area. These presentations described how their AmeriCorps service helped their host organizations expand their capacity to deliver critical direct services to Milwaukee residents. In addition to addressing how their service improved the lives of others, the Public Allies members described how their AmeriCorps service impacted their own lives and their development as future community leaders. To expand this connection, the members answered questions from a panel of Public Allies alumni and community members following their presentations, giving them the opportunity to further explore the impacts of their service.

800 Summer Book Bags Packed for Madison Students
by Schools of Hope AmeriCorps Members

Members of the Schools of Hope AmeriCorps Team gathered together at Books4School in Madison to pack 800 book bags for students being tutored through the Schools of Hope program. Schools of Hope has looked for ways to encourage literacy skill development outside of school since the founding of its program, and since 2016, AmeriCorps members have taken time near the end of the school year to pack and distribute bags of books and school supplies to help build a love of reading and encourage literacy skill development at home over the summer.

This year, the Schools of Hope AmeriCorps Team packed and then distributed 800 bags for students who were either being tutored by Schools of Hope or had been identified as being able to benefit from having some books at home over the summer. Each bag continued six books representing a variety of topics and genres including fiction and non-fiction as well as high-interest books. The bags were constructed by grade level, with the 3rd through 5th-grade bags including at least one graphic novel and one chapter book and the Kindergarten through 2nd-grade bags including at least one picture book. This project was a great way for the Schools of Hope AmeriCorps members to celebrate the accomplishments of the students who had spent the past year working with them to improve their literacy skills.

Trails Built by Boys & Girls Club of Milwaukee AmeriCorps Members

The forty-six AmeriCorps members that participated created two new trails and then camped overnight at the conservatory.  Thank you for coming together to strengthen your teamwork and for giving back to your local community!
