10am Sunday Summer Service | Being Childless
The notion of the nuclear family is embedded in our cultural consciousness. After we reach a certain age, it is almost assumed that we have children. But not all of us do. Childlessness is a topic rarely discussed. We will look at the way the childless are marginalized.
Speaker: Peter House

Drop-In Discussion 11:30am each Sunday in the Chalice Room (second floor). We may be discussing the sermon we just heard, or we may have a presentation and discussion of a specific topic. Drop in and find out! All are welcome!

Upcoming Events & Additional Announcements
Saturday, July 20 | March with us in the Pride Parade!
Join other Unitarian Universalists for the parade marking the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. Parking is at Monroe Square, behind the old Sears Building. Although gathering time begins earlier to get floats lined up, you can arrive after 12pm on Alexander Street. The parade starts at 1pm. We are registered under the name Unitarian Universalists. Ask anyone with a clipboard to point the way to our line-up spot. More details will be shared by those who sign up on the Court Street Bulletin Board or email Pride@uuroc.org.

Sign-up for RAIHN* Week August 11-18
During RAIHN Week, August 11-18, 2019, we will turn our church into a home for temporarily homeless families. We'll convert our classrooms into bedrooms, cook meals, stay overnight, and provide other help. To join our volunteer team, sign up in the lounge after church on Sunday, or contact Chris DeGolyer, chrisdeg@frontiernet.net with questions. If you'd like to learn more before volunteering, we have opportunities to "shadow" experienced volunteers. A new volunteer orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 6 at 6:30 pm at Church of Jesus Christ of LDS, 1400 Westfall Rd, Rochester. RSVP to 506-9050 or coordinator@raihn.org.

NYSCU Annual Meeting | October 25 & 26
It’s a BIG Deal… so Save the Date! Our church will have a chance to shine as we welcome Universalists from around the state and region for the Annual Meeting of the New York State Convention of Universalists (NYSCU), October 25 and 26! The keynote speaker will be UUA President Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, and we don’t often get to host a UUA President at our church! So please save the date, to volunteer and/or attend the conference as a delegate or guest. Watch for more information as the Fall approaches.

Project Team Grant
We are pleased to announce that a friend of the church (not a member) has made a very generous challenge grant to support the launch of our church Project Team anti-racism initiative. All gifts made in July and August, up to a total of $2500, will be matched dollar for dollar, so your gift will be doubled! Checks can be made out to First Universalist Church with “church project” on the memo line. Please contact Elizabeth Osta or Theo Munson (Project Team co-chairs) if you have questions! Together we can!

The Anti-Racism Project is taking shape. As we begin, here's what funds will be used for: professionally led Anti-Racism workshops, social hours with city church neighbors, and a Eunice Ekberg film series.

Thank you in advance for your help -- the Civil Rights Heritage Site will have all of our fingerprints on it!

Summer Programming for Children
Over the summer children, as always, are welcome in service or in Childcare on the second floor with Ms. Carol and Ms. Sundae; this room now has air conditioning! Children's Worship will restart when the church year begins in September.

Library open during the summer!
The Church Library and Bookstore will be open on alternate Sundays during the summer schedule - July 28, August 11, and August 25.

  • Tom Williams: A Memory "51 years ago (on 7/6/68) I left Buffalo airport for service in Vietnam, 50 years ago (on 7/5/69) I returned home to the Buffalo airport. Although one year apart, my most vivid memory of both days is the same, the face of my mother, one sorrow and the other joy."
