Do You Know a Healthcare Game Changer?
Boca Raton Regional Hospital and Baptist Health South Florida Announce Partnership
Baptist Health South Florida announced the completion of its partnership with Boca Raton Regional Hospital on 7.1.19. With this, Boca Raton Regional Hospital is now operating as part of Baptist Health South Florida. The new partnership ensures both not-for-profit organizations will continue to meet their mutual missions and commitments to elevate healthcare within the communities they serve in an area that reaches across four South Florida counties.

"Our organizations share the same calling to improve the health and well-being of individuals and to deliver compassionate healthcare to our patients at the highest standards of excellence and safety. We foresee an exciting future at Boca Raton Regional Hospital that will cement its title as the preeminent healthcare provider in the community," said Brian E. Keeley, president and CEO of Baptist Health.

In May, Boca Raton Regional Hospital announced the appointment of Lincoln S. Mendez as its new chief executive officer to succeed Jerry Fedele when he retires in August. Mendez formerly was CEO at Baptist Health's South Miami Hospital in Miami-Dade County.

"Today's announcement concludes a process that will elevate our position as an advanced, tertiary academic center," said Christine E. Lynn, Board Chair at Boca Raton Regional Hospital. "I thank everyone who participated in this process, both at Boca Regional and Baptist Health, for this exciting outcome."

Broward-Based Healthcare Providers to Explore Solid Organ Transplant Partnership
In what would be a first-of-its-kind collaboration, the North Broward and South Broward Hospital Districts have agreed to explore the possibility of cooperating on organ transplant services. The potential partnership would involve the existing liver transplant program at North Broward's Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and the kidney transplant program at South Broward's Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Gino Santorio, FACHE, and Aurelio M. Fernandez, III, FACHE, leaders of Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare System respectively, recently signed an exploratory cooperation letter of intent to formally begin the due diligence process.

When opportunity knocks in the healthcare realm, you have to be ready. And one of the best ways to be prepared is to establish connections in the industry who already know your skills and work ethic. According to Madison Workman, COO of Coral Gables Hospital, being part of an educational and networking organization such as the SFHEF can open doors to advancement that prospective healthcare professionals may not have even realized existed.

"It's a small world, and when you're going to SFHEF events, you're putting yourself out there and differentiating yourself while building relationships," he explained. "You never know when an opportunity will arise and a person will think of you because of one conversation or one connection. I've seen it happen time and time again. You may have no intention of landing another job, but then someone realizes that you are a really good fit for an opportunity at their organization," he continued. "Building upon events is crucial to building a career in the healthcare profession. It provides so many opportunities to create connections that you can leverage in the community."
