July 1, 2019 - Volume 17 Issue 7
You are invited to a
Jewelry Show!

It's time again for one of our highly anticipated Jewelry Shows.  Our  volunteers are already busy preparing for this event.  Tables filled with jewelry will be set up at The Shops at The Caring Place at 2000 Railroad Avenue on Thursday, July 11th from noon-3:00 p.m.  The area will be roped off and promptly opened at noon.  All you have to do is walk through the jewelry line and select the pieces you would like, and our volunteers will place them in a bag labeled just for you.  At the end of the line, your bag of selected items will be taken to the register for you to purchase.  Just like everything sold in our store, all proceeds support our mission to help neighbors in our community with basic needs.
We have two thrift shops open to the public to help you begin "shopping for good":

Let's Talk about Other Ways to start "Shopping for Good!"
At Randalls:  Do you shop at Randalls?  Do you have a Randall's Remarkable card?  Complete the Good Neighbor Prog ram flyer at your local Randalls and 1% of your e ligible  purchases will be donated back to The Caring Place.  You'll need to include your Remarkable Card Number as well as your charity number on the form.  If you no longer know your card number because you always punch in your phone number at the register, then simply call Randalls at 1-877-723-3929 to ask for it.  The Caring Place's charity number is 13870.  You can print the form to the right or go to our website HERE to download the form and learn more about this program.  If you are already shopping at this grocery store, this is a fantastic way to help The Caring Place simply by doing your regular grocery shopping.

At Amazon:   Amazon runs a similar program to assist your favorite charity.  In this case you will need to access a specific portal each time you shop Amazon.  It's called "AmazonSmile."  This portal is exactly like Amazon and even utilizes your same shopping cart inside the website, but this is the only way .5% of your eligible purchases can get donated back to The Caring Place after you sign up.  How do you sign up?  Sign in to smile.amazon.com.  Select the option "Change Your Charity" and search for The Caring Place in Georgetown, Texas.  Please remember to bookmark this AmazonSmile page and use this website each time you do your Amazon shopping.  Amazon issues The caring Place a check quarterly and even lets you know how much you have earned for The Caring Place.  When we get closer to the holidays, it's fun to see how all of your Christmas shopping adds up when we all utilize AmazonSmile!  For more information on this program go to our website HERE.
Our Food Pantry Needs in July

If you have ever visited our Food Pantry you'll find we have made a few changes around here.  Here's a tiny peak of a new wall we created filled with produce preparation tips.  We are committed to providing healthy options for our neighbors. This idea by Central Texas Food Bank seems like a great way to reduce preparation intimidation that often comes with the incredible variety of fresh food we give out.

What is "Eating for Good?"

Did you see this new way to help this summer?:  In order to increase donations to our Food Pantry, we have launched, "Eating for Good!"  Simply visit our website at www.caringplacetx.org/eatingforgood
and look for the restaurants you can go to eat on certain days and times. Those locations will be donating a portion of the proceeds back to The Caring Place!  Please note some events require a flyer and mentioning of The Caring Place, so please visit our website for more information.

Announcements

  • The Caring Place was awarded a certificate of appreciation for being an "Outstanding Community Partner" by Georgetown Independent School District's Bridges 18+ program.  It's always an honor for The Caring Place to participate in this program for young adults.  These students are learning important workplace and social skills while also brightening our day!
One of the Bridge's students came to our Volunteer Appreciation event to help Betty Miller celebrate receiving one of our Volunteer of the Year Awards.  Betty has volunteered with The Caring Place over 25 years and was a wonderful mentor to Lorena during the 2018-2019 school year.

  • All locations of The Caring Place are closed on Thursday, July 4th for Independence Day.  We will re-open for regular business hours on Friday, July 5th.  See you then!
