Please be aware that the next King Tide that could affect the island will occur July 30-August 3. The term "King Tide" is used to describe the highest seasonal tides that naturally occur each year. In some cases, they may barely even be noticed. In other cases, a King Tide may cause flooding of low-lying areas and disruption to normal daily routines. This is particularly true when a King Tide event coincides with significant precipitation because water drainage and runoff is impeded. 
Manage your Berkeley Electric Account with SmartHub

Berkeley Electric Cooperative is now offering the SmartHub account management app. SmartHub is fully integrated with Berkeley Electric and delivers account information, mobile payments and more. With the SmartHub app you can:

  • Report a service interruption
  • Check your usage
  • Contact their office
  • Pay your bill and more

With hurricane season upon us, SmartHub is a helpful tool for your household to put in place. The SmartHub app is a free download. Simply go the App store on your mobile device and look for the SmartHub logo. Once the app is installed, select Berkeley Electric Cooperative as your provider and follow the set-up instructions. Nesting/Hatching Reminders
 
  • Keep artificial lights off the beach at night during nesting season – this includes beachfront property lights, flashlights and flash photography, which can disorient nesting mothers and hatchlings. May through October all outdoor lighting facing the beachfront should be turned off from 9:00 p.m. to dawn. Free red flashlight filters are available at the Municipal Center and the Nature Center.

  • Always observe from a distance. Harming or interfering with sea turtles or their nests is against the law.

  • Keep our beaches and ocean clean by avoiding single-use plastics. Plastic bags and balloons are among the most common trash items found on South Carolina beaches and can cause injury or death when sea turtles mistake them for food (SCDNR). Read about Kiawah's recent ban on single-use plastics here. The new ordinance will take effect September 8.
Changes to Arts Council Ticketing System

Beginning in July, the Arts Council will be utilizing a new online-only ticket system and charging a $10 fee for additional events in the 2019/2020 season. Learn More

Kiawah Property owners are invited to register here to receive a code for the season by which they can access Arts events tickets three days ahead of the public release.
Main Road Corridor Presentation
 
A Charleston County representative will be presenting the proposed improvements to the Main Road Corridor at the August 6 Town Council meeting held at 2:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend. In May, Charleston County held public information meetings regarding Segment A: US 17 and Main Road Intersection & Main Road Improvements - Bees Ferry to River Road sharing preliminary design alternatives for the Main Road Corridor between Bees Ferry Road and the River Road/Chisolm Road intersection. Kiawah Conservancy Summer  Education Programs

The Kiawah Conservancy invites you to join them for a series of free, family-friendly conservation education talks, Kiawah Turtle Patrol and Shorebird simulations, award-winning documentary shorts, guided nature walks, and more. These programs are sponsored by the Kiawah Conservancy, Town of Kiawah Island, and Kiawah Island Community Association.  Download the full schedule and program descriptions here . CodeRED Emergency Notification System

 With hurricane season upon us, it's important that residents are signed up for the Town's emergency notification system CodeRED. CodeRED is used to communicate in emergency situations or to send critical community alerts such as evacuation notices, boil water notices, tornado warnings, and flash flood notices. Notifications are sent via voice, text, and email based on your preferences. You must be registered to receive notifications. Register here
