Holy Moments, Holy Movement
In my message last week, I reflected on the "holy moment" we find ourselves in as a church seeking to bring Christ's love to bear on the world's deepest needs. This week I want to add to that thought: every moment that we show up as individuals and as a church institution "as the light of Christ" to the pressing need for racial justice and inclusion, we join a deeper and larger movement of God's spirit for peace and reconciliation in the world. Just last night, at a Special Vestry Meeting, your lay and clergy leadership reflected on these words from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr:
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere...we are caught
in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.
Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.
Why We Can't Wait
1963
In a spirit of mutuality, we reflected together on the importance of the moment we find ourselves in; and the need to add our moral authority to the movement that is calling for an end to police brutality against black Americans. Furthermore, we committed to educating and equipping ourselves as your leaders to more deeply understand how we can become the
church
that God is calling us to be, as bearers of God's image and light in this world. To that end, the Vestry is preparing to release a public statement reflecting their views on the need for racial justice within the next few days. As your
Rector
, I am very proud and appreciative of our Wardens and Vestry as we work together to bring God's love to bear on all we do as a congregation during these extraordinary times.
Onward in Hope,
Gareth

RESPONDING FROM THE HEART TO THE CRISIS
|
I am grateful to Barbara Mahoney for updating the list of local agencies whose support to those in need among us is absolutely crucial. Right now, the food pantries are completely stretched and are in need of monetary donation as many more people seek help due to the devastating economic effects of COVID-19.
