Beyond The Surface.
The Real Life Stories of the Youth Project

The Youth Project is honored to work with so many brave teenagers, willing to share their lives with us.  Each month, we'll bring you firsthand accounts of pain, trauma and hope -- from the teens themselves. Here are a few of their stories.

High School Student - "I have enjoyed being in the counseling sessions because I was able to open up and get everything off my chest. It has helped me realize that I am okay and that I am able to be happy for myself without having to rely on someone else to make me happy. I have also learned how to be able to tell myself that I am beautiful. I have also been able to cope with stress on my own. The counseling has helped me be happy."
High School Student - "I thought it was impossible to talk about how I felt when my sister died which made for a bunch of problems at home. But coming to sessions made me realize that I'm not alone, which helped me a lot! I loved my sessions"
Jr. High School Student- "This program really helped me deal with my stress. I've also learned to control my anger. And it also helped my suicidal thoughts disappear."
High School Student - "I learned how to connect emotions to actions. From there, I understood why others act in ways they do, how to identify toxic habits and how to choose what I want for myself."
High School Student - "The SCV Youth Project has helped me find new ways to handle anxiety and overthinking. Life at home has gotten so much better and life at school has gotten way better to. I'll definitely come to the Youth Project in the future if I am ever feeling that severe anxiety again. Overall my life has improved drastically."
Jr. High School Student - "My time with my  Youth Project counselor was something I was able to look forward to every week."
High School Student - "SCV Youth Project's therapy program has succeeded in validating my beliefs and opinions and helping me grow as a person when my life seemed perpetually stagnant."
Jr. High School Student - "This program helped me take more control of my anger and deal with hardships. I was able to open up and always felt safe about whatever I was conversing about."
High School Student - "I love the TAG group. It helped me see I'm not alone and I don't have to go through this alone. It also helped me make new friends."
