Save the Date: 2018 Joint Arts Education Conference

Every two years, the Joint Arts Education Conference (JAEC) brings together Arizona’s arts educators, teaching artists, and arts administrators for a full day of professional development. 

Presented through a joint partnership of the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Arizona Department of Education's Office of Arts Education, the conference offers attendees a unique opportunity to gather and explore key areas and trends in education and the significant role arts educators play in the academic, social, and personal success of students.

National Endowment for the Arts Announces 79 Big Read Grants
The National Endowment for the Arts announced 79 NEA Big Read grants totaling more than $1 million to organizations to host projects between September 2018 and June 2019 in 34 states plus Puerto Rico.

How wealthier students benefit from art, music, and theater over the summer while poor kids miss out
A new study analyzing results from a national survey focused on student experiences over the summer show that students from affluent families are nearly twice as likely to participate in an out-of-school arts or cultural experience as their peers from low-income families. 
Capturing Student and Teacher Creative Growth through the After-School JumpStart Theatre Program
The JumpStart Theatre program, developed by the Educational Theatre Association to create sustainable theatre education programs in middle schools without existing programs, will expand to Atlanta beginning with the 2019-20 school year. Integral to the pilot is research being conducted by the Centers for Research on Creativity to measure the impact of the program on student development. Preliminary results indicate students demonstrate improved confidence, creativity, resiliency, responsibility, collaboration, and sense of community. Another finding shows similar benefits for the participating educators as well.

Professional Development Grants (PDG) are designed to assist Arizona artists, arts administrators, and arts educators with funding support for participation in professional development and skills-building activities which contribute to significant professional growth.
2018 AATE National Conference: Rise Up!

This year our conference will celebrate the work and the future possibilities of the AATE community with two reflective pre-conference opportunities, dynamic keynote speakers,
Master Classes facilitated by artists and change-makers from across the field, and
Sessions by presenters from across the county suited for a variety of arts educators, including Pre-K - 8, High School, College/University/Research, Advocacy, Applied Theatre, Playwriting, Professional Theatre, and Youth Theatre.

VSA Intersections: Arts and Special Education Conference
August 7-8, 2018 | Atlanta, GA
This conference brings together educators, administrators, researchers, teaching artists, and more to build new skills, transfer knowledge, network and ultimately shape practices-improving educational experiences for students with disabilities learning in and through the art.  

2018 AEP Annual Convening: The Arts Leading the Way to Student Success

Through exploring the latest research, innovative practices and emerging policy approaches, the AEP Annual Convening actively supports the role and contribution of the arts in preparing all students for success in school, work and life. 

2018 Educational Theatre Association National Conference
Sept 13-16 | Denver, CO
“We are all Artists”, taking place Sept 13-16 in Denver, will explore the profession of the theatre educator and examine the intersection of classroom teaching and theatrical artistry through workshops and keynotes focused on how teachers and teaching artists can collaborate and complement on another’s strengths. Attendees will gain knowledge and tools to use with administrators and school boards to effectively communicate the value of theatre experiences. 

Fourth International Teaching Artist Conference: Registration Open
Sept. 13-15 | New York City, NY
The fourth ITAC, taking place Sept. 13-15 in New York City, convenes teaching artists, organizations and researchers, among others, to explore key issues of participatory arts practice. This year’s conference will explore the theme of “Artist as Instigator: The Role, Responsibility, and Impact of Artists in Global Communities” through workshops, keynote addresses, site-specific observations and roundtable discussions.

Creativity Connects: Arts in Early Learning

Launched in Seattle in November 2017, Wolf Trap's Creativity Connects: Arts in Early Learning symposia series brings conversations about early learning through the arts to five diverse communities across the country. Though dates have not yet been announced, symposia will be presented this fall in Denver and Los Angeles.
FUNDING
Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants
Cycle B Deadline: October 4, 2018*
Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants support partnerships that foster meaningful arts learning experiences in a variety of community settings for learners of any age. Community/social service organizations or governmental entities partnered with arts organizations or professional teaching artists are eligible to apply.
Arts Learning Collaboration Grants
Cycle B Deadline: October 4, 2018*
Arts Learning Collaboration Grants enhance the work of school-based arts teaching and learning programs through collaborative projects taking place in-school (during regular school hours), after-school, or during summer/inter-session and in-services.

A planned Cycle C application deadline was listed in previous versions of the grant guidelines for Lifelong Arts Engagement Grants and Arts Learning Collaboration Grants, as well as on the Arts Commission’s website and newsletters. Based on feedback from potential applicants and analysis of recent trends, the third application cycle has been cancelled and the deadline for Cycle B pushed back to October 4, 2018. Those who had planned to apply in Cycle C are advised to apply in Cycle B instead.
The Pollination Project – Seed Grants 
Deadline: Rolling
The Purpose of a Pollination Project Seed Grant is to support passionate, committed people with an early-stage social change vision. It funds individuals and community groups, and you do not need to be registered or established organization to apply. 

Jubilation Foundation 
Deadline: July 15, 2018
The Jubilation Foundation helps and grants to individuals and organizations with an exceptional talent for helping young people feel fully alive through rhythm as expressed in music and dance. They give special consideration to under-resourced communities. 

S&R Foundation – 2019 Washington Award
Deadline: August 3, 2018
The S&R Foundation Washington Award recognizes talented artists working in visual arts, music and dance. 

Open Meadows Foundation 
Deadline: August 15, 2018
Open Meadows Foundation is grant-making organization seeking projects that promote gender/racial/economic justice. The projects must be led by and benefit women and girls.
