The Dignity Fund Oversight and Advisory Committee (OAC) has started meeting weekly. Members include Edna James, Gustavo Serena, Elinore Lurie, Beverly Taylor, Marcy Adelman, Margy Baran, Ramona Davies, Chip Supanich, Sandy Mori, Monique Zmuda, and Allen Ng. They will be working hard with the Dept. of Aging and Adult Services to oversee a quick process for recommendations for this first year's allocation and then will have more time for help shape planning and recommendations for future years. St. Francis BYOB Event (Bring Your Own Bowl)
What a great idea! St. Francis Square Community Living Campaign Committee hosted their second BYOB event on Sunday, Feb. 19 at St. Francis Square Social Hall. The idea for the event came from one of our members, Janet Tom, who made two big pots of vegetable soup. Another member, Sachiko Woo, made miso soup. Others brought salads, bread and appetizers. About 25 guests arrived, many who have not come to events before. The next BYOB is set for the Fall. In the meantime, St. Francis Square will be hosting their Coffee and Conversation gathering on March 10 and quarterly Birthday Party April 30. Thanks to Nan Park for the pictures!

Don't Leave Money on the Table
Hundreds of the City's poorest residents who are still working leave tens of thousands of dollars on the table in unclaimed state and federal tax credits designed to give bigger tax refunds to low-income workers. To apply for California's tax credit, a single person has to have made less than $6,717, while a family of two or more had to have made less than $14,161. The Federal tax threshold is even higher - $14,880 for a single person and a family of three or more earning needs to earn less than $53,505. Taxpayers can have the tax break paid out even if they don't owe any taxes!
Those interested in learning more about the tex credit and eligibility requirements an visit. If you income is less than $54,000, you can get your taxes done for free at www.myfreetaxes.org in partnership with United Way.
