MOBOTREX MINUTE

ON THE MOVE

Safe Routes to School by any other name is...

What started in 2005 as the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program was changed in 2012 in a new transportation bill, MAP-21 or TAP (transportation alternatives program), to include funding for bicycling, walking and Safe Routes to School. Those funding changes in SRTS were sustained, along with some tweaks via the FAST Act in 2015.

Each state DOT has the discretion whether to fund SRTS, plus Metropolitan Planning Organizations also have funding through TAP. To find out if your state has a program, check here.

Send your answer to [email protected] with  Traffic Trivia  in the subject line.
The answer to the June 11th trivia is 17,600 minutes each year.
Thanks to all that played.
