Later this week we open the Museum's major summer exhibition,
Art Purposes: Object Lessons for the Liberal Arts. Please join us on Saturday, June 29th for the opening program, when Joachim Homann, the exhibition's curator, will discuss this installation of global contemporary art with Bowdoin faculty member Shu-chin Tsui, together with three alumni in the arts - Roger Conover '72, Alvin Hall '72, and halley k harrisburg '90. Earlier this month we welcomed five students who are interning at the Museum this summer. Kira Cruz '21, Lauryn Dove '21, Sabrina Lin '21, Ayub Tahlil '22, and Alex Withers '21. They will be working on special projects with Museum staff and, beginning next week, leading a daily tour of the exhibitions on view. We're thrilled that they are here this summer. Also, importantly, we want to salute our colleague Honor Wilkinson. After four extraordinary years as the Museum's Curatorial Assistant and Manager of Student Programs, she will depart from her position at the end of this week. Our heartiest thanks to her.
See you at the Museum!

Joachim Homann: Curator, Scholar, Friend
The opening of
Art Purposes is bittersweet for the Museum of Art. It is both an opportunity to examine and celebrate sensational contemporary works from the permanent collection and a moment to bid farewell to the exhibition's curator, Joachim Homann, as he embarks on a new chapter. In this interview, Homann shares his thoughts on the exhibition and his time at Bowdoin.

The Blind Man
Featured in the
