June 17, 2020

Over the weekend I purchased a hanging basket to hang on the corner of the deck in my backyard. (I don't have much a green thumb, so maybe you can identify it for me?). When I first saw the plant in the store, the bright blooms and lush leaves immediately caught my eye. When I got home, I hung it up and watered it.  The next day I looked out on my deck and the bright blooms were no longer there! "That's what you get for buying a plant that's on sale," I thought to myself. At least all of its leaves were still hanging on!

But then I glanced at the plant again yesterday morning... and the blooms were back! And then in the evening, the blooms were gone again. And then this morning, they were back!

I suppose the beautiful, bright blooms are in the habit of taking a rest. Glancing at those blooms got me thinking about rest. When was the last time you had a good rest?

Recently, I've been praying about our church and how God might be calling us to be good neighbors and serve our community in the future. Those blooms reminded me of the importance of Sabbath rest and how when we rest, God works to restore us so that we, too, can blossom as we live out God's unique calls upon each of our lives.

Peace,

Pastor Rosy
